To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VVILFRED SELLERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elwood, Madison county, and Stateof Indiana, have invented and discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen- Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to kitchen cabinets and its object is to provide eifective means for removably connecting the top and base of the cabinet and at the same time providing a space between these partsinto which the molding board may be moved.

To this end my invention is embodied in preferable form in the device and arrangement hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

In these drawings Figure 1 is a front view in elevation of a kitchen cabinet; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the bracket removed from the cabinet; Fig. 3 an end view thereof; Fig. 4i, a vertical section through a corner of the topand base and one of the brackets; Fig. 5, a similar view, showing a modified arrangement of the bracket members, Fig. 6, a-broken detail section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 4.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the top of a kitchen cabinet and 2 the base thereof.

Referring to the device of Figs. 2, 3 and -il-., a flat flange 3 of a U-shaped bracket member is mounted on and secured by screws to the upper face of the base 2, the member being curved outwardly and upwardly at a and merging into an. upper flat horizontal flange 5, on which is adapted to bear the outer portion of the lower face of the top, whereby the top is supported on said bracket member.

Secured to said under face of the top is a bracket plate 6 having a flat fastening flange 7 provided with screw holes 8 through which screws are passed to secure the bracket member to the top. From this flange portion the member is bent angularly into a shoulder 9.

Extending from the, outer edge of the shoulder is a retaining and guiding flange or strip 10, which is oifset by the shoulder below the plane of the fastening flange 7,

thus leaving a space between said strip 10 and the lower face of the cabinet top. The inner edge of the upper arm of the U- shaped bracket member is adapted to enter Specification of Letters Patent.

into this space when the top and base are properly joined together.

The U-shaped bracket supports the top above'the base for a sufficient distance to permit a molding board 11 to he slid back into the cabinet under the top.

The bracket members extend from front to rear of the top and base, and a pair of such brackets is provided on each side of the cabinet.

In mounting the top on the base, the offset retaining flange 10 on each side is slipped under the border of the upper horizontal flange or arm 5 of the U-shaped bracket member, with the top resting on said flange 5, and the top slid back into position. The engagement of the bracket members will hold the top on the base firmly against lat oral or vertical movement. To remove the top for repair or for transportation, it is merely necessary to slide it outwardly so as to release the two bracket members. an arrangement dispenses with the necessity of attaching screws between the U-Inember andthe top and obviates the time and inconvenience occasioned by the removal of the screws, and at the same time enables a more sightly bracket to be employed.

In Fig. 5, a modified arrangement is shown in which the member with the offset flange is secured to the base and the U- shaped member fastened to the top.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is: I

1. In a kitchen cabinet, in combination with the top and base parts thereof, a U- shaped bracket having a horizontal flange secured to one of said parts and having a horizontal flange bearing against the other part and spacing the top and base apart to provide a molding board recess, and a member separate fromthe bracket and carried by the part opposing the part to which the bracket is secured and having a flat free bearing throughout itslength against said bracket to permit the separation of the parts by relative movement in a straight line longitudinally of the bracket, and said member having means to prevent relative lateral and vertical movements of the top and base.

2. In a kitchen cabinet, in combination with the top and base parts thereof, a U- shaped bracket having upper and lower horizontal flanges extending under and above the top and base respectively and Such having a vertically ofl'set flange overlapping a flange of the bracket and having a flat free bearing on the bracket, Whereby'the parts may be separated by relative movement in a straight line longitudinally of the bracket and prevented from vertical or lateral separation.
