TORSTEN. ALroNso ,GYLnsnoarr, or nnrnorr, mrcmenn.
Toall whom may comm.-
Be it known'that 1,-TORSTEN A. GYLL' .DORFF, a subject of the King of Sweden, re-
' has for its primary object the provision of hair and holding the hairs gripped against a device of this character so constructed that the same will be effectively held within the hair and having theinherent property of gripping 'a relatively large amount of independent movement.
An object of the inventionv is to provide a two part hair pin in which the parts are so constructed and arranged that they will be positively. held against bodily movement v2O away from each other when being applied to t e hair.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the devicethat the point of attach ment between the parts will not interfere with the resiliency of the parallel limbs or those portions. between which 'the hair lodges. n
With these and other objects in View the invention consists in the construction, combination-and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illus trated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended. Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In the drawing Figurel is a front elevation of the hair pin, and
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof.
In the drawing the numeral 1 designates a central memberof a well known construction with the exception that the limbs 2.01 the member are oppositely bowed intermedi'-' ate their ends as indicated at 3, so that the hair w'edging inbetween the bowed portions 3 will lodge between the bowed portions 3 and the point of juncture of the limbs. The numeral 4 designates the outermember so designated because the :limbs 5 thereof are arranged upon the outer sides of the limbs 3, that is to say, distances from limbs 3. Each of the limbs 5 is provided with an outwardly bowed portion 6 arranged in'. alinement with the inwardly Specification of Letters Patent.

bowed portions 3 and at this point attention is called to the fact that owing to the relative arrangement'of the portions 6 and the bowed portions 3 bulged recesses 7 are formed between the limbs 2 and 5 in which a large amount of hair may lodge. lhus it will be seen that unsymmetric surfaces are provided for gripping the hair. The con necting portion 8 that unites the limbs 5 'is coiled-around the smooth curved end portion 9 of the central member 1 to form a loop as clearly shown at 10, the curved end portion 9 passes between the sides'of the loop and over the portion 8 of the member ,4 in such a manner as to hold the central -members against twisting around its longitudinal axis that is .to say any tendency of the central member to twist in this direction will be prevented by the curved portion 11 at the intersection of the loop with the. portion 8, while the curved portion 12boiiperates with the curved portion 11 to prevent transverse axis.
By referring to Fig. 1 it will be readily seen that the curved portions 11 and 12 also twisting of the central member around a efiectively hold the] central member against upward and downward movement. Thus it will be seen that the central member and the outer member is-held against relative bodily movement in any direction, and atthe same time does not interfere with the resiliency of the parallel limbs. v
From the fore oing description taken in connection with t .e accompanying drawing it-should be apparent that I provide a device which is admirably adapted for the purpose for which it is intended, that the device is simple, durable and efiicient of construction, and that the device may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost. Changes in" the form, proportion and minor detailsof construction may be made within the scope of the claims without dethe advantages of the invention,
What I claim is 1 1. A hair pin. comprising a U-shaped outer .member having a centrally arranged loop in" the portion connecting the sides thereof, a U-shaped inner member having a smooth and curved portion "connecting the sides thereof, said smooth and curved portion passing betw'eenthe sides oft-he loop and over the portion connecting the sides of the first mentioned member, an inwardly bowed from the spirit or sacrificing any .of
portion het\\'eenthe ends of eaeh of the sides of the inner member, and an outwardly bowed portion in each of the Sides of the outer member. I
2. A hair pin comprising a U-shaped outer 'memher, a U-shaped inner ineinher eonneeted with the outer member and arranged between the sides thereof, said outer member having an outwardly bowed portion on each side thereof and an inwardly bowed In testimony whereof, I affix my Signa- 'ture.
