Specification of Letters Patent.
HEAD-REST HANGER FOR BARBERS CHAIRS.
Patented May 8, 1917.
Application filed. August 31, 1914, Serial No. 859,336. Renewed February 8, 1917. Serial No. 147,508.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONIO BONGIO- VANNI, a citizen of, the United States, residing at Barnesboro,in the county-of Cambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Head-Rest Hanger for Barbers Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a head rest hanger for barbers chairs.
The object of the present invention is to provide asimple, practical, and inexpensive holder or hanger for supporting the head rest of a barbers chair out of the way of the barber when he is cutting hair and the head rest is not in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a head rest hanger of this character, adapted to be readily applied to any barbers chair directly beind the back'thereof, so as to be in convenient position for use and enable the head rest of the chair to be removed from the back thereof and placed 7 in the hanger without requiring the barber to move from the chair.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing Fi re 1 is a side elevation of a han erc constructed in accordance with this invent1on and shown applied to a barbers chair,
the latter being partly in section and the head rest being supported in the hanger.
, Fig. 2 is a perspective view-of the hanger, the rubber lining of theouter jaw of the clamp being broken away to show the studs of the removable block.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the hanger.
F ig.4 is a vertical sectional view of the same.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the removable block. 7
L ke m rals of reference d gnate co responding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, 1 designates an approximately U-shaped clamp equipped with a clamping screw 2 and comprising inner. and outer sides 3 and 4 and a bottom connecting portion 5. The clamping screw, which carries a head 6, and which is substantially hori-' zontal, is mounted in a threaded opening 7 of the inner side 3 ofthe clamp. The head 6, which cooperates with the outer side or jaw 4- .of the clamp in engaging the rear portion 8 of the seat 9, of a barbers chair 10, is provided with a socket 11 receiving a ball 12 carried by the adjacent end of the clamping screw 2 and constituting a ball and socket joint and providing a swivel connection-between the head 6 and the screw. The other end of the screw is provided with a winged head or thumb piece 13 to enable it to be readily grasped and rotated. The clamping head 6 and the outer side or jaw 41: of the clamp are provided with linings or facings 14 and 15 of rubber or other suitable material to enable the clamp to beengaged with the frame of the chair 10 without marring or otherwise injuring the finish thereof. The clamp 1 carries an open oblong frame 16 extending outwardly from the clamp,
' preferably at a slight downward inclination,
as shown, and it is adapted to receive the rack or bar 17 of a head rest 18 when the latter is removed from the back 19 of the chair 10. The frame consists of an outer side, ends, and inner or rear side sections or arms 20, which are suitably secured at their terminals to the outer side or jaw 4 of the clamp 1 at the side edges thereof, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The open frame is covered with rubber tubing 21 or other suitable material, to avoid scratching or otherwise marring the finish of the head rest.
secured to or otherwiseformed on the block, and removably fitting in openings 24 in the upper portion of the outer side or jaw 4: of the clamp 1, whereby the block is detachably interlocked with the clamp. The block is preferably ,tapered downward slightly to present an inclined outer face 25 to the rack or bar 17 of the head rest. The inclined face 25 of the block has a covering 26 of rubber or other suitable material to avoid marring the finish of the head rest. When the head rest is supported by the hanger, it is arranged at the back of the chair and is out of the way when not in use, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The block is adapted to be readily detached when it is desired to use the hanger of a chair having a head rest with a relatively largerack or bar.
As the clamp engages the rear portion of the frame of the seat, it is adapted to be easily and quickly applied to any of the ordinary makes of barbers chairs.
What is claimed is 1.. The combination with a chair frame, of a clamp consisting of a stationary and a movable jaw for fastening the clamp tothe frame, a frame connected to the stationary jaw, and a block removably connected to the stationary jaw, said block and last mentioned frame being adapted to support a head rest when not in use.
2. A head rest hanger for barbers chairs comprising an approximately il-shaped clamp provided at its inner side with adjusting means, an open frame extending outwardly from the outerside of the clamp and adapted to receive the rack or bar of a head rest, and a block or' member located within the frame and fitted against and detachably interlocked with the outer side of the clamp.
3. A head rest hanger for barbers chairs including a clamp adapted to engage a barbe1"schair and provided with an exterior jaw or portion, an open frame extending downwardly from the said exterior jaw or portion at an inclination, and a removable block or member arranged within the frame and detachably interlocked. with the exterior jaw or portion of the clamp, said block comprising an inclined outer face.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
