FRANK S. IVIA'IHER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FINGER-MOISTENER.
Application filed September 23, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK S. MATHER, a subject of the King of England, residing at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Finger-Moisteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to finger moisteners.
The object of the invention is to provide an antiseptic finger moistener for the use of conductors, bank clerks or others engaged in issuing transfers, money, or other paper to the general public.
Another object of the invention is to provide a moistener which may be carried in a convenient manner so that it may be at all times ready for use.
WVith the above objects in view the invention consists of a container of a convenient size or shape and preferably composed of glass or aluminum, and having a hook for engagement with the belt or other portions of the clothing of the user.
The invention further consists of a sleeve threaded within an opening formed in the container, said sleeve having secured therein a suitable wick by means of which antiseptic solution within the container is absorbed for the purpose of wetting the fingers.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view the sleeve and wick being shown in elevation.
Fig. 4k is an enlarged detail section through the sleeve and illustrating the manner of securing the wick therein.
In the practical form of the invention as shown, the moistener consists of a container of suitable size and shape, preferably formed of glass or aluminum. This container is designated by the numeral 1 and is provided Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 24, 191?.
Serial no. 121,785.
with a suitable hook 2 in order that it may be conveniently carried upon the belt or other portions of the apparel of the user. The top of the container is provided with an opening 3 surrounded by a threaded depending flange a.
The sleeve 5 is provided with threads 6 for engagement with the threads of the opening 3, the said sleeve surrounding a wick 7 The wick may be made of any suitable absorbent material and is secured within the sleeve 5 by punching holes or in dentations 8 in the said sleeve. The jagged I edges of the indentations 8 project into the wick and securely hold it in position within the sleeve.
In order to provide a tight joint for the opening 3 so that the solution within the container will not leak out and soil the clothes of the user, there is mounted upon the sleeve 5 a flange 9. A rubber gasket 10 is clamped between the underside of ,this flange and the top of the opening 3. This effectually prevents any leakage from the container.
From the above description it is apparent that the invention provides an eflicient and convenient means for moistening the tips of the fingers, and obviates the necessity of wetting the fingers with the lips and the consequent transmission of disease germs.
Having described the invention what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is A finger moistener comprising a container having a threaded opening in its top, a hook carried by said container a threaded sleeve for said opening a wick for said sleeve, a flange on said sleeve, a packing between said threaded opening and flange and roughened points projecting inwardly from said sleeve into said wick.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
FRANK S. MATHER.
