To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, Anrnnn CoroNY, a citizen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and Ettate of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Keyless Yokes, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in keyless yokes.
An object of the invention is to provide a yoke for railway draft riggings in which a detachable connection is provided between the yoke and the draw bar and without the necessity of using rivets or keys.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional view of a draft rigging, showing my improvements in connection therewith. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of my improved form of yoke, showing the same connected to a draw bar butt and Figs. 3 and 4 are vertical sectional views taken respectively on the lines 33 of Fig. 2 and l 1 of Fig. 1.
In said drawing, 1010 denote the center sills, to which are secured stop castings l111, each of said castings being provided with pairs of front stops 12 and rear stops 13 and a horizontally extending channel or guideway 14. 15 denotes the shank of a draw bar, which is provided with the usual butt 16, having upper and lower transverse shoulders 17-17. The gear proper, as shown, comprises front follower 18, rear follower l9, twin arranged sets of nested springs 20-20, separated by a spacer 21. The gear is supported by means of a saddle plate 22 detachably connected to the sills 10, as by bolts 23.
The means for operatively connecting the draw bar with the gear consists of a yoke, designated generally by the reference A. As shown, the yoke A consists of two side arms 2 l2 l, which are of like construction and each of which is provided at the rear with an inwardly extending shoulder or abutment 25, adapted to engage the rear side of the rear follower 19, said shoulder 25 being strengthened or braced, as by the web 26. At its front end, each arm 24: is provided with an inwardly extending shoulder 27,
which engages and cooperates with the front follower 18. F orwardly of the shoulder 27, each arm 24 is provided with upper and lower inwardly extending webs or flanges 28-28, which fit over the upper and lower surfaces of the draw bar shank 15, said flanges 28-28 being each provided with a right angled shoulder or abutment 29, which engages and cooperates with the adjacent shoulder 17 formed on the drawbar. The upper and lower flanges 2828 are connected as by means of a vertically extending web 30. As clearly shown in Fig. 2, the arms 242al, between the shoulders 25 and 27 are narrower than at the front portions where the upper and lower flanges 28-28 are formed.
The operation of the device is as follows :Under draft, the upper and lower sets of shoulders 29 of the yoke arms are engaged by the shoulders 17 on the draw bar and the yoke thereby pulled forwardly, which in turn, actuates the rear follower 19 through the shoulders 25 to thus compress the springs. Under bud, the rear end of the draw bar butt engages the front follower 18 and compresses the springs between it and the rear follower 19. During both of these actions, the yoke arms 2l-24l are guided and held in proper operative position by means of the stop castings 11-1l. It will be furthermore evident that the fol lowers and springs may be taken out by first removing the saddle plate 22.

In a yoke for railway draft riggings, an arm having a longitudinally extending vertical web provided with an inwardly extending shoulder at the rear end thereof, said arm at the front end thereof having parallel, inwardly extending upper and lower flanges adapted to fit against the side faces and upper and lower shoulders of a draw bar butt.
