The toggle links are now connected with the jaws by inserting the pins 24: in the recesses 23, after which by pulling on the head block 26, "the jaws will become tightened on the fabric, and the latter will be placed under tensile strain. It is obvious that power of any kind or description may be used for exerting the desired pull or tension on the head block;
the clevis member may be connected with the end of a rope or cable leading to a windlass operated manually or by animals, or animal power may be applied directly to the clevis. Lever or other power may also be employed when deemed desirable or expedient.
As will be seen from the foregoing description, the improved fence clamping device is extremely simple in its construction, and it is capable of being produced at a very moderate expense, the clamping jaws being made, as Well as the head block, preferably of cast iron, while the clamping bars are nothing more than pieces of ordinary scantling having metallic strips mounted on the Owing to its structure as herein described, the clamping jaws may be very quickly disengaged and adjusted adjacent to opposite faces of the wire fabric that is to be stretched, and the general construction of the device is of such a nature as to render it thoroughly effective for the purposes for which it is provided.
Having thus described the invention, what I is claimed as new, is
1. In a fence clamp, a pair of jaws of substantially rectangular form. having interengaging hinge lugs and a pivot member engaging the same, said jaws being provided at the outer corners of the free ends thereof ,with pairs of projections having recesses in their-outer faces, a toggle device including a head block, and links pivotally connected therewith, said links extending between the projections and having transverse pins engaging the recesses in said projections, and a clevis member connected with the head block, said clamping jaws being provided with recesses in the faces thereof and with clamping bars secured in said recesses.
2. In a fence clamp, a pair of jaws of substantiallyrectangular form having interengaging hinge lugs and a pivot member 811-- gaging the same, said jaws being provided at the outer corners of the free ends thereof clamping bars having crimping strips inset in the faces thereof and extending longitudinally thereof.
