To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY D. OBRIEN, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Forsyth, in the county of Rosebud and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Truss-Pad, of which the following is a specification.

The device forming the subject matter of this application is adapted to be assembled with a truss for the purpose of retaining a The device may be characterized as a truss pad, although it acts more as a modifier of the pressure on the rupture, than as a. pad, strictly speaking.

The invention aims to provide a device of this type so constructed at its edge as to retain a secure hold on the body of the wearer, novel means being provided whereby the cup portion of the structure will be prevented from being distorted unduly.

It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in top plan, a device constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the structure shown in Fig. 1.

The device forming the subject matter of this application includes a resilient cup 1 preferably made of comparatively soft but elastic rubber. The side wall of the cup is denoted by the numeral 2. The inner face of the side wall 2 is designated by the reference character 3, and the outer face of the side wall 2 is designated by the reference character 4. The inner face 3 and the outer face 4: of the side wall 2 converge as they extend toward the mouth 5 of the cup to form a thinned edge 6. 'The wall 2 of the cup flares outwardly, as 2 of the drawings will clearly show. Owing to the specific shape of the cup, resulting in the thinned, outwardly flaring edge 6, the cup will attain and secure a firm hold on the body of the wearer. The side wall 2 of the cup may be equipped with vent openings 7 permitting air to pass'readily into the cup and out of the cup, as the cup is compressed, thereby avoiding suction on the rupture. Across the mouth of the cup may be extended a covering 8. This covering may be of any desired form, but it may be of knitted construction. The covering 8 is extended as shown at 9 onto the outer face of the side wall 2 of the cup, and, may be provided with eyes 10 through which passes a knotted draw string 11, whereby the covering may be adjusted to the cup. The function of the covering is to protect the body of the wearer from contact with the thinned edge 6 of the cup and, at the same time, the covering serves to pre vent too great a distortion of the cup adj acent the thinned edge 6. If, as is desirable but not mandatory, the covering 8 is made out of knitted material, it will possess some elasticity, without, however, permitting too great a distortion of the thinned edge 6 of.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A truss pad comprising a resilient cup the side wall of which flares outwardly; a flexible covering extended across the mouth of the cup and onto the outer face of the cup, the side wall of the cup having perforations disposed between the rear edge of the covering and the base of the cup and arranged symmetrically with respect to the axis of the cup; and a supporting means con 'nected with the base of the cup.
