To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER 'KovAos, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Harvey, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and I mproved Shade and Curtain Fixture, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact de-, scription.

My invention relates to window Xtures adapted to support a shade roller, a curtain pole and curtain rods, and including brackets adjustably supported to adapt them to conform to windows of various Widths.

Objects of my invention are to provide improved clamp means for adjustably securing the brackets to a co-acting base; and to provide novel means on the brackets to support curtain rods in addition to a shade roller.

Other objects of the invention and the advantages of the improved construction and the arrangement of the parts will appear as the description proceeds.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a'broken perspective view of a shade fixture embodying my invention;

In carrying out my invention a base is provided which advantageously is formed 1n two separate sections, 10, each consisting of a longitudinal strip of sheet metal. The base sections may be secured in any suitable manner as by means of screws 11. .On the sections 10,'at the upper and lower longitudinal edges, forwardly disposed flanges 12 are produced which flare, thus giving the strip dove-tail formation.

Slidable on the base sections 10 are brackets 13, hereinafter referred to as shade brackets. It is to be understood that the term shade is not to be limited to the means for supporting a shade roller but to include a pole or rod bracket.

Each bracket 13 is bent laterally providing a foot 14, the upper edge of which constitutes a fixed jaw 15 on the bracket, said jaw being bent rearwardly and downwardly at an angle to embrace and conform to the adjacent flaring edge 1.2 of the base. Co-actlng vvlth the fixed aw 15, is a movable clamp I element 16 which terminates at one end in a jaw 19 disposed at an angle to embrace the opposite flange 12 of the base, the two jaws 15, 19, thus mating the dove-tail formation of the base. The clamp 16 is formed with trunnions 17, one of which is journaled in an ear 18 at the'end ofthe foot 14, while the opposlte trunnionis journaled in a hole 18 in the body of the bracket 13, the trunnionsbeing between the ends'of the clamp so that the latter may rock vertically; In order to actuate the clamp 16 for tightening or loosening the jaw 19 thereof, I provide a screw 20, which extends through and has threaded engagement with the said clamp and bears at its end against the foot 14 on the bracket 13. Thus, either clamp may be adjusted longitudinally of the base according to the width of the window.

In each bracket provision is made for receiving a shade roller, there being a round hole 21 in one bracket and a slot 22 in the opposite bracket. 1 also provide on the brackets, near the outer ends, resilient bowed arms constituting yielding sockets 23 to receive the ends of the curtain pole, said sockets having shanks secured to the brackets by rivets 24 or the like.

The brackets also, support curtain rods, 25, 26, outward from the sockets 23. These rods are of unequal length, as best seen in Fig. 2, and the ends thereof are bent rearwardly. The terminals of the'bent ends of the rods 25, 26, are received in sockets 27, 28, formed on brackets, 29, 30, riveted or otherwise suitably secured to the respective shade brackets 13, the bent ends of the rods being of unequal length to engage their respective sockets.

Thus, one rod 25 is outward from the other, so that the rods may receive separate curtains, such as a silk curtain and a lace curtain, and the said curtains may be made to extend rearwardly at'both sides. A pole (not shown) in the sockets 28 may serve for hanging a portiere.

It is to be understood that the curtain rods, 25, 26, may be made telescoping or adjustable in any suitable manner, there being shown short rod sections, 31, 32, fitting the adjacent tubular ends of the said rods, 25, 26, which are divided.

By the described construction the shade brackets may be firmly secured'in adjusted position with convenience and despatch and by the described equipment, provision is made on a fixture for any character of curtain or curtains desired.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: I

1. A window fixture including a base having means whereby to secure the same in position, and shade brackets slidable on said base, each bracket having a jaw member rigid therewith and engaging one longitudinal edge of the base, a jaw rockable on the.

Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,

jaws having terminals mating the dove-tail flanges of the base and presenting vertical members at the front of the base, and a screw having threaded engagement with one of said vertical members and bearing against the other member.

3. A window fixture including base sections having means whereby to secure the same in position, said sections being formed with longitudinal flanges flaring in dovetail form, a bracket slida-ble on each base section, said brackets being formed with a laterally disposed foot,'said foot having a fixed jaw mating the adjacent flange of the base section and formed with a forwardly disposed ear parallel with the body of the bracket, a clamp member having trunnions rockable in the body of the bracket and in said ear, said clamp terminating in a jaw mating the adjacent flange of the base, and a screw extending through and having threaded engagement with the said clamp and bearing against the face of the fixed foot on the bracket.
