St. Johnsbury, in the county of Caledonia and State of Ver1nont,'have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Gas- Burners, of which the following is a Speoilication.

This invention relates to an improved firfz' kindler and the principal object of the invention is to provide an improved fire kindler of the gas fuel type, an improved type of burner being provided so constructed that ashes cannot gather upon the upper end thereof to clodthe gas outlet opening,-

Another object of the invention is to so construct this burner that it will cover a relatively great amount of space with respect to the grate of the stove thus permitting the coal or other fuel in the fire box of the stove to be quickly ignited.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this kindler that it will not interfere with the removal of ashes from the ash pit.

This invention is illustrated in the accornpanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the fire box of a stove in sectionwiththe fire kindler in elevation.

The stove indicated in general by the numeral 10 is provided with the usual fire box 11 which fire box has the grate 12 and positioned above the ash pit 13, The pipe 14 enters the ash pit through one wall thereof and is provided with a. valve 15 positioned outside th" -tove so that the gas can be'turned on. The upper portion of this burner 16 is en larged to provide a flaring head 21 having a tapered upper edge portion in which there is provided outlet openings 22 through which the mixed air and gas will pass. Any fine dust which might sift through the openings 22 will pass out through the air inlet openings 19 or if it does remain in the base of the burner 16, it will be so positioned that it will not interfere with the effective operation of the burner. a It will thus be seen that there has been provided a very effective fire kindlcr of the gas operating type.
