This invention relates to an improved rein spur and has for 1ts prnnary ob ect to provide a simply constructed and effective device which can be easil and quickly applied to one of the reins or lines, whereby the horse or other animal may be spurred or goaded into renewed activity.

It is another and more particular object oft-he invention to provide a device for the above purpose, consisting of a circular, metal disk having a toothed or serrated perimeter and a central, elongated opening therein,-and

spaced plates secured to the opposite edges of said opening and between which the rein or line is adapted to be disposed, said plates having clamp ng pressure upon opposite sides of the re1n.

It is a further general object of my invention to provide a rein spur which is durable in its construction, may be manufactured at small cost, and is highly convenient and serviceable in practical use.

lVith the above and other objects in View, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and" arrange-- ment of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,

Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates a metal plate or disk of circular form and preferably of sheetsteel. The perimeter of this disk is toothed or serrated as indicated at 6, and said disk is also provided with a diametrically extending, elongated slot 7 therein.

of the plates 8 exert a suflicient resilient clamping pressure upon the sides of the rein to retain the spur in the desired position upon the rein. Thespur may, therefore, be easily and quickly adjusted so that it will strike the hide of the animal at the desired place, and'may also be readily removed from the rein or replaced thereon. Such a device is particularly desirable for use when driving two or more horses or other draft animals, the spurs being applied to the proper rein so that the animal which shirks or lags may be spurred and thereby caused to as sume its portion of the draft. The points or teeth on the plate 5 'may be dulled or sharpened,.as may be required, by the use of a suitable file.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, manner of use and several advantages of the device will be clearly and fully understood. While I have herein referred to a circular toothed plate 5, it will be understood thatthis plate may be of various other forms if desired, and the clamping plates 8 engaging the rein may also be of features and it will, therefore, beunderstood that I reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the character described comprising a plate having a toothed outer edge and a central opening therein to receive a rein, and clamping means projecting from the opposite side faces of the plate at right angles to the plane thereof for engagement upon the rein to retain the plate in an adjusted position.

2. A device of the character described comprising a plate having a toothed outer edge and an. opening therein adapted to receive a rein, and spaced clamping plates projecting from opposite sides of the disk and adapted for clamping engagement upon the opposite sides of the rein to retain the toothed plate in an adjusted position.

3. A device of the character described comprising a disk having spur teeth on its perimeter and provided With a diametrically extending opening to receive a rein, and plates extending through the opening and secured to the opposite longitudinal edges thereof, the end portions of said plates projecting in parallel relation from the opposite side faces of the disk and in a plane at right angles thereto for clamping engagement upon the opposite sides of the rein to retain said disk in an adjusted position.

4:. A rein spur consisting of a fiat plate having pricking teeth on its outer edge, and means fixed to the plate and projecting from one side thereof for attaching the plate to a rein.

5. A rein spur consisting of a flat disk having pricking teeth formed upon its perimeter, and attaching means for the disk including spaced plates fixed to the disk and projecting from one side thereof for engagement against the opposite faces of a rem.

6. A rein spur consisting of a flat disk having pricking teeth formed upon its perimeter, and attaching means for the disk including means fixed to the disk and projeoting from opposite sides thereof for clamping engagement With a rein.
