This invention relates to a certain new and the useful holder for neckties and the like,

my present invention being to provide a simple and inexpensive device adapted to hold and releasably secure against accidental displacement or theft while displayed or exposed upon a counter or ptilper support one or more neckties or the With the above and other objects in view, my present invention resides in certain novel features of form, construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as will hereinafter be described and afterward pointed out in the claim. a

Referring to the said drawing, in which like reference characters refer to like parts my new holder c'omprisesan elongated approximately rectangular flat base or bottom wall 1 and a pair of side walls 22 upstanding from base 1 at its opposite side edges. Base 1 projects forwardly some little distance beyond the front edges of side walls 22, and walls 2-2 have a downwardly and rearwardly inclined or sloping upper ing greater height at their front than at their rear, edges. To obviate all sharp corners and at the same time attractively increase the appearance of the holder, base 1 and walls 2'2 are preferably rounded at their corners, as shown.

Extendingtransversely across between side walls 2-2 and ab'ovetongue or extension 3, is a bar or the like 8 provided at its opposite ends longitudinally with oppositely disposed headed extensions .9-9 which project through said slots 6-6 and are adapted to engage with the teeth of said racks 7.

By means of said bar 8 and its said teethengaging extensions 9, tongue 3 may be held or secured in adjusted position between walls 2-2, tongue 3 being downwardly or upwardly relatively to base six teeth in said 1 depending upon the number of ties placed within the holder. Accordingly, in use or practice, the tie or ties are preferably first doubled upon themselves and then at their neck-band portions in neat piles placed lengthwise within the holder between base 1 and tongue 3, tongue 3 being yieldingly adjusted to engage thereupon and being held in such adjusted position by its retaining bar 8, as illustrated in Fig. 4:. Four ties 10 being shown, extensions 9 of bar 8 now preferably engage the fourth tooth, counting upwardly, 0f the series of teeth on the rack 7. With tongue 3 so engaging upon the ties, it will be evident that, to remove one or more of the ties from the holder, a positive pull thereupon is required. However, one or more of the ties 10 being removed from the holder, either through pull thereupon as stated or otherwise, that is to say, with bar 8 first disengaged from said to yield upwardly, tongue 3 may again be lockingly engaged with the remaining ties teeth to permit tongue 3.

' lVhile the holder here shown is adapted, as stated, to, contain or hold siX ties, it will be obvious that by increasing the length of rack-slots 7, the height of walls 2 being also increased if necessary, the holder may be readily adapted to accommodate a larger number of ties. It may be also here stated that base 1 has preferably a width sufiicient to neatly accommodate between side alls 2 ties having neck-band portions of standard width; but it will also be understood that the same may be of greater or less width, as may be desired, and that other changes in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of my holder may be made and substituted for those herein shown described Without departing from the nature and principle of my inven tion.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;

In a holder for ties and the like, approximately flat base, a pair of spaced apart sidewalls upstanding from said base and provided with alining downwardly and rearwardly disposed raek-slots,said base being longitudinally extended rearwardly and doubled upon itself at its rear end to provide a springtongue, said tongue projecting forwardly between said side walls and above said base and being yieldable vertically at its free end relatively to the base, bar eX- tending transversely between said side walls and across said tongue, and projections on said bar fitting in said slots and adapted to engage the racks thereof for adjnstably securing said tongue against yieldable move ment upwardly from the base, said bar with its said projections being slidably movable relatively to said tongue. 7
