Description

l. D. CONN.
HAME HOOK.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT- 27. 1916.
1,217,916. Patented Mar. 6, 1917.
ISA-AC D. CONN, OF \VELLINGTON, TEXAS.
HAME-I-IOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 6, 1917.
Application filed September 27, 1916. Serial 110.122, 107.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAo D. .CONN, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vellington, in the county of Collingsworth, State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Hams-Hook; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others-skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to harness, and particularly to an improved hame and trace connector.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a device of this kind, in other words, a hame hook, having means, whereby a trace may be adjusted in raised or lowered positions without removing the hame or detaching the trace.
In practical fields, the details of construction may necessitate alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features, and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a hame, showing the improved trace connector applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the connector.
Fig. 3 is a view in front elevation and partly in section showing another form of connector. 1
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail perspective view of a portion of the connector, showing the locking means for the bolt Fig 5 is a sectional view on line 55 of Fig. 4.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates a hame, laterally of which a pair of lugs 2 and 3 project. The shanks of the lugs are riveted in the hame at 4. These lugs are provided with openings 5 and 6, through which the boltor rod 7 extends. The openings 5 and 6 of the lugs are provided with recesses 8. The bolt or rod 7 throughout its length is formed with alined ribs 9, which are spaced apart. The trace hook 10 consists of a U-shaped member, to which the trace 11 is connected. The free ends of the arms of the U-shaped hook are provided with openings 12, through which the elongated bolt or rod 7 extends. These openings 12 have recesses 13, which are similar to the recesses S. The elongated alined ribs in cross section are of a contour conforming to the shape of the recesses S, and 13, so that when the elongated bolt or rod is adjusted so that the ribs register with saidIrecesses 8 and 13, the bolt or rod may be moved through the openings 5 and 6, and 12. However, when the trace hook is disposed in the proper position, and tension is on the trace, the recesses 13 of the openings 12 are at right angles to the recesses 8, and the ribs are diametrically opposite to the recesses 13 in plan view, therefore, when it is desired to raise or lower the trace hook, it is necessary to impart a half revolution to the rod or bolt, in
which case the trace hook may be raised or lowered, the ribs passing through said recesses 13. r
In Figs. 3, 4 and5, the upper lug 3 is provided with a depression 15, adjacent the opening 6, into which depression one of the ribs extend, thereby preventing the rod or bolt from being rotated, until the rod or bolt -is slightly raised. set bolt 16 is threaded through a projection 17 of the lug 3, to engage the end of'one of the ribs to prevent the rod or bolt from beingraised. The arms of the trace hooks, when adjusted, engage the spaces between the ribs.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful, is
1. In a hame and trace connector, the combination of a hame having a pair of lugs extending therefrom provided with apertures and spaced one above the other, and a U-shaped hame hook, the arms of which have apertures provided with recesses, of an elongated bolt or rod passing through the apertures of the lugs and the apertures of the arms of the trace hook, said bolt or rod having alined elongated spaced ribs to pass through the recesses of said arms when the trace hook is being adjusted, vertically, said ribsbeing out of alinement with the recesses of the arms when adjusting the bolt or rod, whereby the arms of the hook may engage the spaces between the adjacent ribs, said apertures of the lugs having recesses to admit of the passage of said ribs when inserting the bolt or rod, and means for looking the rod or bolt against being raised and partially rotated.
, 2. In a hame and trace connector, the combination of a hame having a pair of lugs eX- tending-therefrom provided with apertures and spaced one above the other and a U- shaped hame hook, the arms of Which have apertures provided with recesses, of an elongated bolt or rod passing through the apertures of the lugs and the apertures of the arms of the track hook, said bolt or rod having alined elongated spaced ribs to pass through the recesses of said arms when the trace hook is being adjusted vertically, said ribs being out of alinement with the recesses of the arms when adjusting the bolt or rod, whereby the arms of the hook may engage the spaces between the adjacent ribs, said apertures of the lugs having recesses t0 perm-it the passage of said ribs when inserting the bolt or rod, and means for locking Copies of this patent may be obtained for the rod or bolt against being raised and partially rotated, said means comprising a pro jection on one of the lugs, said lug with the projection having a depression adjacent its aperture into which one of the ribs of the bolt extends to prevent 1."otatingv the rod or bolt, and a screw threaded in the projection to lie in the path of one of the ribs to prevent the rod or bolt from being raised.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
