To all whom itmay concern:
Be it known that I, MARK G. MELVIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranten, in'the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new 7 and useful Improvements in Liquid-Soap Dispensers, of which the following is a specification.-'
This invention relates to liquid soap dispensers and has for its primary object the i vide a liquid soap dispenser and a discharge or dispensing device, both of which being designed so as to permit of their ready connection with one another at the time of filling the container and it is further desired and contemplated that the connection between the container and the dispensing member be such so as to cause a part filling of the dispensing member normally.
Another object of the invention is theprovision of a dispensing device which will con- .sist of a comparatively few parts and means for elfecting a liquid tight joint between the parts when the dispensing member is in a discharge position.
It is further desired that provision be made for restricting the flow of liquid from v thecontainer to the dispensing or discharge member on the canting of the container and it is therefore a further object to so form the discharge or dispensing member as to restrict the flow of liquid therefrom, back to the container on the canting of the latter.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals deslgnate similar parts in the several views Figure 1 is a vertical section through the soap dispenser showing parts in full lines.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the supporting bracket.
The valvel'ess dispenser herein designed for the purpose of permitting a quantity of liquid soap to be discharged into the hand ofthe operator at the desired time, consists primarily of an attaching bracket 1, which charge maybe secured to the wall or some other suitable support by screws. or appropriate fastenlngs 2. Extending horizontally from the bracket is a cylindrical stern 3, provided therein with annular grooves 4 and 5. This cylindrical stem or extension is extended beyond the groove 5 where it is providedwith alongitudinal vent bore 6 having a lateral branch 7 for a purpose, to be here: inafter explained.
The discharge or fdispensing member 8 constitutes a part of the present dispenser andon reference to Fig. 1 it is seen that this member consists primarily of a disnozzle 9 having a hollow cylindrical lateral sleeve 10. This sleeve fits overthe cylindrical .stem '3 from which is free to revolve In order to hold the'sleeve against L moving in a longitudinal direction upon thestem 3, I provide a screw 11 adjustably fitting in the sleeve and provided with an extension 12 which is projected into the groove 4. This arrangement is such that a swivel connection is formed between the mentioned parts for a purpose which will presently appear.
The nozzle 9 is provided with an. interiorly' threaded. socket 13 which receives a correspondingly threaded neck 14 of a spherical llquid soap container 15. Fitting between the socket of the nozzle and. the neck 14 is a packing disk 16 having an aperture 17 com-' municating with a bore 18 in the nozzle.
The bore 18 enters the bore Gas at 19 and on reference to Fig. 1 it will'be observed that normal communication is thus established with the liquid container permitting the same to be properly vented."
The nozzle 9 of the dischar e member is provided with a tube 20 exten ing in a vertical direction into the container. This tube opens into a passage 21 of the nozzle atone end and at the opposite end the tube is provided witlra crown 22having acentral relatively small aperture 23. The crown of the tube 20 is spaced from the bottom. ofthe container 15 so that'liquid from the' container may flow into the tube asjclearly illustrated in Fig. 1.
The crown of the tube 20 is provided for the purpose of forming a restriction to any return flow of liquid within the. tube back to the container 15 during the process of canting the container for the purpose of discharging the soapinto the hand of the user.
The construction of the device herein exerted against the nozzle or against the container 15so' as to move the latter to an inverted position upon the axis of the stem The liquid in the container 15, except that which has passed into the tube will then flow to the opposite end of the container, while that which has passed into the tube will be free to flow into the hand of the user. At the time of the position of the parts to efi'ect such operation, the sleeve 10 of the nozzle will be revolved on the stem 3 and the vent passage 7 in the sleeve will be brought out of the bore 6. The container 15 is then closed from the atmosphere and the liquid is held against flowing or leaking onto the exterior surfaces of the device. In order to prevent possible leakage, the groove carries a pack line with the branch 7 of ing Washer '24: which bears against the inner walls of the sleeve 10.
What is claimed as new is A dispensing device comprising a stem having a longitudinal vent bore provided with a lateral branch, a .nozzle having a sleeve rotatably mounted on the stem and provided with a passage adapted to register with' the said lateral branch when the nozzle is directed upwardly and to be out of register therewith when the nozzle is directed downwardly, and a containerattached to the nozzle, said nozzle haying also a bore which communicates with the bore of the stem and with the container.
