.To all whom i may concerns' Be .it known that l, lnasr; Ik lozir, a Citizen ille United States, residing at llasl'haiuplion9 in he county oil Hampshire and Stale oin lllassaelinsetlis, have inventcol certain new an'. useful Improvements in uloniatio Flushing Ueviocs, ol' which the following is aepecilicaion.
'l`l'iis invention relai-es lio certain new anni ueeilul iniproviennois in .fiu'aoniaic flushing clevices.
The primary object` olf the invention is the provision ol. an auoinatic means si-rviccahle in connection wili xvaer closets aclape. for aukoniaically irippinlg the flushing' inechanisin whenever oesirecl the arrangement heing easy anal inexpensive lo manufacture and capable oi'f insallaion upon water Cloe eis already installed.
ji .further object oli the device is the ai rangen'lni; oil a foot controlled tripping means for the flush valve of l ereby elle mechanism is; sei by stepping on an actuaing member, 4he nipping opera'ion "hiking place upon steppingoil of suoli in fiber.

a water closet' The present foot-controllccl flusher actuator is adaptable. for dill'erenL forms of wazer close flushing mechanisms and the same is herein illustraled in connection with a wa'tcrrlosot conipri'sinfr a bowl 1(l.llusl1 tank lll. and connecting flushing pipe l2, elle lalioi' liaif'ing an annular seat 13 within the tank il adapted lor the closinf y reception of the ball mlve ll.. n stem .l5 is secured to the valve. l" having an angular link 16 pivoted.y thereto while a lifting rod 17 is provided havingy loose connections with the link lik substantially as provided in the usual iush tank Inecha'nieni of a waer closet. An arni 18 is pivotefl as at 1S) to a bracket 2() within the tank ll and extends through a guide member 21 upon the rear Wall 22 of the tank, the said arni having the rod 17 pivoted to its free inner enc'l as at 23.
A. foot plate 2l preferably having a rough` @ned upper face 5 is arranged within a. receiving opening- Q6 in a frame 27 of' the floorQS, vthe said plate 24 being preferably arranged directly forwardly of @he bowl 10. A depending Central stein 201s carried by the plate 24 freely sliclable Within the bore 30 of a block 31 carried by the lower partition of the floor and an angular operating lover 33 pivoterl to a bracket 3l upon the partition has a circular end surrounding theI stem Q9. also surrounds he said stem between the lever end 35 and the block 31 whereby the 'plaie 2l is reeiliently maintained normally elevalerl, the upwarrl movement thereof being limited by lugs 3? carried by the plate and 'normally engaging the lower face of the member 2T. A tubular casing 38 is arranged upright on the floor QS within which a. connecting rod ,is freely arranged, the lower enel olf the said rod extending through an opening l0 in the loor 28 anol having a pin and slot Connection. 4l with the adjacent end of the lever 33.
A rip bar is pivoted tothe bracket 2O as ai; l-5 and, extends through the adjacen; sides Llll of the box l being pivotally connected as at 45 with the upper end of .the rod. 39 within the upper end of the cas- 105 A helical spring 6v the said 11@ lever 33 with the brackety 34 assisting the spring 36 in returning the lever 33 and the plate 24 to their normal positions as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
The operation of the device will be apparent from the within detailed description thereof` it being seen that by stepping upon the plate 24, the springs 36 and 50 are ten! sioned while the pivot end 41 of the lever 33 is elevated carrying the rod 39 upwardly and swinging the inner end of the bar 42 downwardly to a point within the `hook 46 as illustrated in Fig` 6 and by dotted lines in Fig. 3, it being noted that the lower inner face 51 of the bar 42 is beveled, allo-w'- ing the same to engage the end 48 of the hook 46, swinging the hook upon its pivot 41 and passing inwardly thereof. The elements remain in this position as shown in Fig. 4 as long as the plate 24 is depressed, but upon stepping off ot' the said plate and releasing the latter, the springs 36 and 50 return the lever 33, rod 39 and bar 42 to their normal positions, the engagement of the bar 18 with the hook 46 during the upward movement ofthe said bar carrying the said hook and the arm 18 upwardly as illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 4, thereby unseating the valve 14 and flushing the device by allowing the water 52 within the tank 11 to freely pass by the valve. seat 13 through the pipe 12 and into the bowl 10.
A serviceable arrangement is provided whereby the flushing mechanism is automatically actuated by the feet of the operator positioned in the usual manner during the use of the structure.
\Vhat I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising in combination with a water closet having a tank provided with a flusher pipe supplied witha ball valve, an arm pivoted in the said tank, loose link connections between the said arm and valve, a trip bar carried by the said tank, a resiliently mounted floor' plate, an operating lever attached' at one end to said plate, a rod connecting one end of the lever to one end of the bar, a hook pivoted to the said arm, a spring for maintaining the upper free end of the hook within the path of travel of the said bar whereby the bar iu its upward movement is brought into tripping engagement with the said hook.
2. A device ot the class described comprising in combination with a flush tank having a gravity seating iiush valve, an arm pivotcd within the said tank, link connections between tlie said arm and valve, a limiting guide for the said arm, an upwardly-extending hook pivoted to the said arm, resilient connections between the said hook and the adjacent side of the tank whereby thc free end of the hook is normally arranged spaced from the said tank side, a trip bar for the said arm pivoted to the tank and having a lower beveled face adapted -for frictional ni'oving engagement with the said hook during the downward movement thereo'l, and elevating means for the said bar adapted for upwardly moving the said arm upon an upward movement of the bar in the valve unscating operation.
3. A device of the class described compris ing in combination with a iiush tank having a gravity seating flush valve, an arm pivoted within the said tank, link connections between the said arm and valve, a limiting guide for the said arm, an upwardl`vextending hook pivoted to the said arm` resilient connections between the said hook and the seating operation, the said means comprising a normally rcsiliently elevated foot plate, a .lever having one end operatively connected to the said plate, and a connecting rod between the opposite end o1" the said lever and the adjacent end of the said bar.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
