SANITARY DRINKING APPARATUS.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL T. WHITAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Muscogee and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Drinking Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a, full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in drinking apparatus, and the object in view is the assurance of a sanitary condition during the operation of drinking directly from a bottle.
With this and further objects in view, the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter specified and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing,Figure 1 is a vertical central section through an apparatus embodying the features of the present invention and illustrated as applied within the neck of a bottle, portions of the bottle being broken away. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the apparatus.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, 1 represents an upper tubular portion, and 2 a lower tubular portion of a drinking apparatus adapted to be applied directly to the neck of a bottle 3. Each of the tubular portions 1 and 2 is formed at the end adjacent the other tubular portion with an outstanding annular flange 4 and between the flanges is arranged a filter or screen 5. The flanges 4 may be connected together in any appropriate manner but preferably by a covering sheet 6.
In practice it is preferable to form the tubular portions 1 and 2 with their flanges 4 of paper. and the sheet 6 is also preferably formed of paper and is connected to the flanges by any appropriate adhesive. Of course, the structure may be formed of papier-mach and compressed into shape in which instance the tubular portions and flanges would all be formed integral, and
the screen 5 would be positioned during the course of formation of the structure.
It is desirable that the tubular portions 1 and 2 shall be duplicatesof each other so that either may be introduced into the throat of the bottle and the other left protruding. Of course, the statement that the tubular portion 1 extends upward and the portion 2 downward is merely relative and refers to the position assumed as shown in the drawmg.
It is apparent, of course, that the flange formed midway of the entire tubular structure as a result of the presence of the flanges at and their engaged ends may vary materially in size and contour and various substitutes may be utilized within the spirit and scope of the invention. The principal function of the flange is to provide a stop to engage the upper end of the bottle neck.
The screen 5 may in some instances be omitted.
Each of the sections 1 and 2 is preferably tapered away from the central flange so as to facilitate introduction into the throat of the bottle and also to assure a snug fit therein.
What I claim is 1. In sanitary drinking apparatus, a tubular structure having a lateral projection intermediate its ends adapted to engage the upper edge of a bottle neck when the structure is introduced into the neck, the portions of the tube extending in opposite directions away from the projection being substantially duplicates of each other and each adapted to snugly fit within a bottle neck.
2. 3. In sanitary drinking apparatus, tubular alined sections each a substantial duplicate of the other and each comprising a tapered body having a terminal flange, and means connecting the flange for producing a lateral projection in the length of the completed structure, each section being proportioned to fit within a bottle neck.
