ThisA valve mechanism is well 'understood by those skilled in 'the art and is therefore not-illustrated inthe drawings. In the construction shown, it is inclosed infthe box or case 10, to opposite sides of which they inner fixed boards of the motor pneumatics are secured. i l

.In the example herein 4illust rated,wthe shaft 12 which drives the .music roll is free to slide lengthwise in its bearing in the tracker box, the opposite end of the music roll being carried by the usual springpresse'd bearing pin or stud 13. Bearing against the free end ofthe shaft 12 is a shifting arm 1,4 which is secured to an upis shifted in one or the other direction by the collapse of the motor pneumatics, in -an y l@bancus manner.
i The mechanism for Ialternately drivingthe usual take-up roll and the music roll 7 may ,be of any desired or lwellknolwn construction. That shown in the drawings is of the'co'rnmon form comprising themain driving Shaft 21, constantly turning in the same direction; the chain 22 and sprockets 23 and 24 connecting the music roll shaft 'with said main shaft; and the driving shaft 25 of the take-up roll having the gear wheel 26 adapted to be engaged by the pinion 27 carried-'' by the clutch collar 28. The collar is splined on the main shaft and has the f usualclutch-pin or pins 29 adapted to engage similar pins 30 on the sprocket 23 L) lwhich is loosely journaled on themain shaft in a Well known manner.. The clutch collar 28 is shifted by an arm 3l secured to a vertical rock shaft 32 carrying an' actuating arm 33. The latter is connected to a horizontal slide 34 journaled in the base ofthe tracker box and having a finger piece or key 35 for shifting it. This roll-winding and rewinding mechanism' operates in the customary manner, the music sheet being o wound upon the take-up roll when. the pinion 27 is moved into gear with the gear Wheel 26, and the sheet beingrewound upon the music roll when said pinionI is withdrawn and the clutch collar 28 moved into engagement with the loose sprocket wheel 23, as shown in Fig. 1.
In its preferred embodiment illustrated in the drawings, .the improved duct-cleaning device comprises a block 36 containing in its lower portion a 'wind or suction passage or chamber 37 connected by a tube 38 with a suitable exhaust or windinducing device, chamber or conduit, such as the 4usual main suction bellows 39 of `the instrument, whereby ,saidpassage is constantly exhausted so long as the main bellows is actuated. Arranged above the passage 37 is a longitudinal groove or guideway 40 the bottom of' which forms a seat for a valve 41, preferably of the sliding type, as shown. Extending 'upwardly from the passage 37 to said valve seat are ports 42 corresponding in number to the number of controlling ducts/1. Located at one side of each of these ports is a similar port 43 which is connected by a.
, branch tubeh44'with the ` main tube 8 or 9 of one of said "'ontrolling ducts, there being a Y pair off'such coperarting ports 42 and 43 for each controlling duct. The slide valve Lemma verse channels or ports 45, each adapted to bridge and connect a pair of the ports 42, 43 when brought into register therewith, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Vhen the valve is moved into this open position the controlling ducts 4 are placed in communication with the suctionA passage 37, causing any dust, lint or other foreign substances lodging inthern and the valve box or case connected therewith to be withdrawn through said passage into the main bellows 39, from which the accumulations are removed from time to time. When the valve is shifted to its closed position, as shown in Fi g. 8, its ports break register with the ports 42 and 43, cutting of communication between the suction passage 37 andthe con-y ',trol'ling ports and allowing the tracker mechanism to operate in its normal manner. The valve is held down upon its seat1 by a spring 46 or other suitable means. This fiushing or cleaning device may be operated by hand, if desired7 but it is preferably combined with the roll-driving mechanism in suchv a manner that' the cleaning valve is automatically moved to its open or operative .position in the act of shifting the key 35 to rewind the music'shcet. In the example shown in the drawings, this is ac complished by connecting the cleaning valve 41 with lthe key-slide 34 by a rod 47.
By this construction and arrangement, the
'controlling ducts 4 and connecting passages are subjected to the cleaning or Bushing action of the suction current whenever a music-sheet is rewound. This renders it impossible to re-roll a sheet without simultaneously cleaning said ducts, thus maintaining the tracking device in properworking order at all-times. v
Whenthe key 35 is shifted to take up the music sheet, the cleaning .valve isl at the same time closed, cutting outthe cleaning device while the instrument is playing. While affording this important advantage, the improvement is exceedingly simple in construction, its cost is but nominal and it can'bc readily applied to existing as well as new tracking devices ofthis kind.'
In the drawings', the improvement is shown as applied to a' tracker having two controlling ducts, one ear each edge of the music sheet, but'the improvement is equally applicable to trackers havin?t a pair of such ductsnear each end thereo or a different number, the cleaning valve being provided with as many sets of ports 42, 43 and 45 as there are controlling ducts.
