Be it known that I, ANTON A. LINQUIsT, a citizen o-f the United States, residing in Garfield township, in the county of Clay and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grave-Vaults, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof.

My invention relates to improvements in vaults placed or constructed in the grave and the objects are to construct a vault which shall be weather proofrand so arranged as to leave the remains or corpse readily accessible to view when desired.

I attain these objects byv means of the construction and arrangement hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional view of a side elevation of my invention; Fig. 2, a sectional View of an end elevation of same; Fig. 3, a plan View of same with lid B removed, and Fig. 4, a plan View of the completed vault closed.

Similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.

While I contemplate constructing my vault of concrete, any suitable material may be used. It consists of the main vault A provided with cover B having lid C over opening fn., which may be full size of the opening into the main vault, if desired. Within the space b in the main vault A is placed an inner vault D for reception of the casket containing the corpse. The inner vault is preferably constructed of concrete but may be made of any suitable material. Such inner vault after the body is placed therein is securely sealed by placing the cover o over same, such covering being made wholly or partially of glass or other transparent material leaving the features exposed to view. Within the main vault and above said inner vault and spaced therefrom, which space is referred to as b, I place another section of glass a resting on shoulders f-/". Between the glass a and main vault covering B a chamber E is provided. Covering the opening a and resting on the shoulders m-fm is placed a section of glass Z, plate preferred. vault doubleshoulders g ,7c are provided for cover B to rest thereon, the better to hermetically seal the vault. Handles 'i c' are provided by means of which to remove the cover B. The lid C may be hinged to the cover B and, when closed, firmly secured thereto by means of hasp 0, eyebolts z, and a padlock. In lieu of glass any suitable transparent material may be used. It will be readily seen that when the casket with the remains therein is placed within the inner vault, the lid of the casket being removed, the described sections of glass replaced and sealed and the cover B placed over the main vault, the remains may still be viewed through the opening a by raising the lid C. Also that the use of the inner vault precludes moisture, caused either by leakage or sweating from reaching the body within the casket.

The principal advantage of my invention is the possibility of viewing the remains at any time without removing or disturbing the same, thereby avoiding the dissolution of the body by admission of air thereto, at the same time excluding all moisture from reaching the body entombed therein.

Vhat I claim is In a grave vault the combination with a main receptacle constructed of any weather and water resisting material and provided with a cover of a similar material, the secondary receptacle within the main receptacle for reception of the casket containing the corpse, said secondary receptacle being also constructed of a weather and water resisting material, the side walls thereof spaced from the walls of said main receptacle, the cover thereto provided with a transparent section, the chamber above said secondary receptacle, the transparent partition between said space and secondary receptacle, the opening through the cover to the main receptacle into said chamber, the transparent plate closing said opening and the protecting cover over said plate, all as and for the purpose set forth.
