Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2, 1917.
Application filed May 15, 1916. Serial No. 97,592.
clear, and eXact description of the invention, 'such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in curry combs, and has for its object to provide a device of this character so constructed that the cleaning teeth thereof can be thoroughly cleaned when desired during the currying operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a curry comb having cleaning plates so arranged as to be moved diagonally of the cleaning teeth to remove the dirt therefrom.
Vith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, -in which:
Figure 1 is plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view showing the cleaning plates in their operative position.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates a back, which is provided with a plurality of transversely arranged slots 2, the purpose of which will appear later. The comb teeth 3 are secured to the end surface of the back 1 in any well known manner.
Arranged between the comb teeth 3 are the cleaning plates 4, which are substantially U-shaped in cross section and have their sides 5 flared slightly for frictionally engaging the adjacent sides of the teeth 3. The backs 6 of the plates 4 have secured thereto pins 7, said pins being engaged in the slots 2 and have their upper ends connected to a bar 8. The central pin 7 is of greater length than the other pins and has its upper end extended over the bar 8 and has secured thereto an actuating knobl 9.
Normally the backs 6 of the plates 4 are engaged with the inner surface of the back 1, but when it is desired to clean the comb teeth the knob 9 is grasped and swung laterally so as to position the sides 5 in diagonal relation to the teeth 3, whereupon the plates 4 are slid laterally thereby imparting to the sides 5 a shearing action which will remove the dirt from the comb teeth. It is of course obvious that the cleaning plates will be rst moved in one direction and then in another direction so that all parts of the comb teeth 3 will be cleaned.
I/Vhat is claimed is A currycomb comprising a back, said back having transverse slots formed therein, cleaning plates including backs 4and sides, said sides being slidably engaged with the comb teeth, pins slidable in the slots and having their inner ends connected to the backs of the cleaning plates, a bar connecting the outer ends of the pins, and means carried by the bar for moving the same laterally and causing the sides of the cleaning plates to move diagonally across the comb teeth.
In testimony whereof, I aiX my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY HARTBERG.
