.HHHIHIHLI er s earner niec AMOS E. METTS, OF GROSVENOR, TEXAS.
NEGK-YOKE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMOS E. Mn'r'rs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grosvenor, in the county of Brown and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in NeclcYokes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to neck yokes and more particularly to a neck yoke especially adapted for use on a hog.
The primary object of my invention resides in the provision of an improved neck yoke embodying novel means for adjustably clamping the device in position, the clamping means also serving as a support for the guarding means.
Another object of my invention resides in the provision of a novel restraining means coacting with the guarding means and actuated when the guarding means is engaged abouta piece of wire or other similar object.
A further object of my invention resides in the provision of a device of the character described that is simple in construction, efficient in operation and one that can be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost.
Other objects as Well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.
In the drawings: Figure l is a side elevational view of my'invention applied to a hog shown in dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of my invention; Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the clamping means; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged top plan view of a portion of the restraining means.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which reference numerals designate like or corresponding parts throughout the difierent views, I provide a neck yoke comprising an improved clamping means in this instance consisting of a pair of substantially semi-circular shaped sections 1 and 2, the lower ends of the sections being provided adjacent their outer ends with a plurality of uniformly spaced openings 3, through which is inserted a bolt 4 when certain of the openings are in alinement and in their adjusted position. The outer end of the bolt is engaged by a nut 5. The opposite terminals of the clamping sections 1 and 2 are up- Specification of Letters Patent.

turned as at 6 and have the guarding means pivotally mounted therebetween, preparatory to being connected through the medium of a fastening means comprising preferably c shaped lever is slightly curved and has the terminal thereof pivotally mounted about the bolt 7. The opposite portion has the free terminal bent outwardly to provide a hook 11 for engagement with a wire fence or the like. The novel restraining means of the yoke in this instance consists essentially of a substantially bell crank lever 12 formed preferably from a single piece of wire. One end of this lever has its terminal bent outwardly and adapted for adjustable engagement with one of the openings 13 formed adjacent the vertex of the V-shaped lever, enbeing removably maintained through the medium of a nut 14 associated with the threaded terminal. The point of distortion of the bell crank lever 12 is formed by looping the rod upon itself as designated by the numeral 15. i This loop 15 serves as a pivoting means for the snout engaging ring 16, said ring being associated with the lever during the formation of the loop. The extreme free terminal of the bell crank lever 12 is sharpened to provide a point 18 adapted, at times to engage the snout of the hog, especially when the hook 11 is engaged about the wire, thus causing the hog to jump away from the fence or other object engaged.
The operation of my invention is as follows: In applying the yoke the ring 16 is arranged about the snout while the clamping means is adjustably applied about the neck of the animal. It will now be seen when the hog approaches the fence, the hook 11 will engage a portion of the wire thereof which will cause the same to move upwardly about its pivot point 7, simultaneously exerting an upward'movement on the bell crank lever consequently pulling the snout of the hog upwardly. During this movement the free pointed end 18 of the bell crank lever will stick the snout of the hog and cause the latter to jump away from the fence.
Although I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire to be understood that I am not to be limited to the exact details shown, however,
great stress is laid upon the arrangement of the guarding means having the restraining means cooperating therewith for producing the results described.
From the above description taken in con-' when assembled can be placed upon the market and sold at a minimum cost.
It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comprehend only the general embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A neck yoke including neck clamping means, a V-shaped lever pivotally connected at one terminal thereof to said neck clamping means, a guarding hook formed by bending the other terminal of the lever outwardly, a snout engaging ring, a bell crank lever adjustably connected to the V-shaped Copies of this patent may be obtained for lever at the vertex thereof and movably connected at its point of distortion to the snout engaging ring, and the free end of the bell crank lever being pointed and adapted to engage the snout of the animal when the guard hook is moved. 7
2. A neck yoke including a pair of adjustable sections clamped about the neck of an animal, a substantially V-shaped lever pivotally connected at one terminal thereof between the upper terminals of the sections, a guarding hook formed by bending the other terminal of the V-shaped lever outwardly, a snout engaging ring, a bell crank lever formed from a single piece of rod metal, a loop provided at the point of distortion of the bell crank lever and pivotally arranged about the ring, the long arm of the bell crank lever being adjustably connected to the V- shaped lever at the vertex thereof, and the short arm of the bell crank lever being pointed to en age the. snout of an animal when the guard hook is moved.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
