STRAP CLAMP.

Specification ot' Letters Patent.
Patented Bee. llt?, lltltfd,
Application filed lune l5, i916., Serial No. lllfltltl.
To (.IZZ i12/wm it may concern lie it known that l, llZILLrAM E. Davis, a citizen of the United States oi' America, and a resident of New lipswich, county of Hillsborough, State ot New Hampshire, have invented certain new and uset'ul improve ments in StiapCla1nps, of which the following is a full and clear speciication.
rilhis invention relates to a strap clamp of the buckle type, the object of the invention being to provide a secure holding means for the strap that will not require that the strap be perforated or otherwise weakened, as more fully hereinafter described.
ln the drawing-Figures l, 2 and 3 are, respectively, a front elevation, an edge elevation, and a vertical longitudinal section ot the preferred torni ot my device, the sectional view being taken on the line 3-3 of l; and Figs. t and are, respectively,
horizontal sections on the lines 4.-4: and
5-5 et Fig. l.
Referring to the drawing annexed by reference characters, a designates the main plate of the buckle which at its lower end is curled to form an eye Z) for connection to the loop c, the latter being adapted to be connected to one end of the strap or to a suspender attachment, etc. 'lthe upper fend of the plate is provided with a transverse slot CZ, and the bar e at the upper edge ot this slot has its front edge inclined upwardly and forwardly, as at f.
il pivot g is mounted rigidly on the ears ZL located at the side edge of the main plate,
and pivotally mounted upon this pivot is a plate i whose upper edge j bends toward the inclined face j, the upwardly extending part ot the plate being sutliciently long to bring l the edge of the bent part j against the inclined face ,-f when the upper part ot the plate is swung toward the main plate. rllhe lower part in ot the pivoted plate terminates adjacent to a staple Z projecting trontward ltr-om the main plate a. rlfhe tree end ot the strap is passed through the slot eZ, thence between the inclined tace f and the edge ot part and thence down under the staple Z, so that when the strap is 'drawn taut the action will be to pull the upper part of plate i inwardly and thus clamp the strap securely between the edge 7' and the inclined tace fp The tree end ott the strap will be prevented from swinging outwardly tar enough to be pulled between the'parts y' and f by means of the staple or loop Z, and the free end of the strap will be clamped in this loop Z by the outward swinging tendency ot the tail-piece Z6, the lower edge of which engages the inner faceof the strap and presses the strap against the cross-bar ot the staple. llt will be observed that the more the nstrap is pulled on the tighter will be the clamping action; at the same time, it will be observed that if the tree end ot the strap is held by one hand the buckle can be slid upwardly on the strap by exerting a little torce, since by upwardly pushing on the buckle, there is exerted a tendency to ease up on the clamping action between the parts ,t and Having thus described my invention, what ll claim is:
A strap clamp consisting ot a main plate having a transverse opening across its upper end, thereby forming a bar across said upper end, a clamp plate pivoted on the iront tace of said main plate and having its upper edge adapted to clamp the strap against the front tace of the aforesaid bar and having its lower part depending below its pivot and lying in front of the main plate, and a loop projecting forwardly trom the iront face ot the main plate adjacent to the eX- tended lower end of the pivoted plate so that when the upper end of the pivoted plate is pulled by the strap against said bar the eirtreme lower end of the plate will swing outwardly and bite the strap against said loop.
ln testimony whereof ll hereunto atlix my signature.
