Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented n, a, rare.
Application filed January 17, 1916. Serial Ito. 72,559.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Mosnr MoN'rAcnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Christiansburg, in the county of Montgomcry and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Air-Circulating Apparatus; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in air circulating apparatuses and more particularly to one designed primarily for ventilating purposes, although its application need notbe restricted to this use.
The objectof the inventionis to improve upon the construction shown in. my pending United States application, Serial No. 60361, filed November 8, 1915, the improvements residing in a general'rearrangement of parts whereby the device is greatly simplified.
With the foregoing object in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and in unique combinations of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matterbeing supplemented by the accompanying drawing which constitutes a part of this application and in which:
Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section of the improved apparatus; Fig. 2 is a yertical transverse section thereof taken on the plane of the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 8 is a detail section. through the partition and the fans on the opposite sides thereof; and Fig. 4 is a detail side elevation of a portion of said partition and one fan showing a modified form of construction.
ln specifically describing the construction shown in the drawing previously described briefly, similar characters will be placed on corresponding parts throughout the several views and reference will be herein made to the numerous elements by their respective riphery of the partition 3 is disposed in close proximity to the curved wall 6 of the casing 1 as clearly shown.
Disposed one on each side of the partition 3 is a pair of rotary fans 7, each of said fans being shown in the present embodiment of the invention as formed by slitting sheet metal disks radially and by bending the portions thereof between the slits in such a manner as to form angularly disposed blades 8. The outer ends of these blades are preferably secured by bolts or the like 9 to the partition 3, while the body portions of the fans are similarly secured to said partitions as disclosed at 10.
The fans 7 are adapted to draw air into the inlet openings 2 when the shaft is rotated in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1, and to deliver said air centrifugally through outlets 11 leading from the casing adjacent the peripheries of said fans. In order that this result may be edectively accomplished, the rear edges of the numerous blades 8 preferably contact throughout their length with the partition 3. By this arrangement,
a plurality of air pockets '12 is provided, said pockets being open at their front ends to gather air therein, and being open at their outer ends to allow this air to be delivered centrifugally through outlets ll.
lln Fig. 4C a partition 3* is shown, and fan blades 8 are riveted to the opposite sides of said partition at their rear edges. This construction will be equally as advantageous as that previously described and in some cases may be more desirable.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood Without requiring a more extended explanation, and obviously the apparatus is much simpler and less expensive than that shown in the pending plication above referred to.
claim as my invention:
An air circulator comprising a cylindrical casing having central air inlet openings in its two ends, a one-piece circular part1- tion plate disposed centrally between said.
ends of the casing and having its edge in close proximity to the curved wall of'said casing, a drive shaft at the axis of the easing on which said partition plate is secured, said shaft extending outwardly through one of the aforesaid air inlet openings, a plulllll curved wall of said casing on each side of the partition plate, said outlets being disposed adjacent the outer delivery ends of the air pockets and being positioned at diametrically opposed points.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses. l
MOSBY MONTAGUE. 'Witnesses J. A. TURNER, W. L. HUGHSON.
