Description

` Z. S. CRACRAFT. Improvement in Feed Mills.
N0. ]20,'52. l I Patented`0ct.`31,1871.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ZADOK S. ORAGRAFT, OF OTTAWA, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND WILLIAM STORMONT, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FEED-MILLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,562, dated October 31, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ZADOK S. ORACRAFT, of Ottawa, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Mills; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a feed-mill, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 2 an end view of my machine.
A represents the frame of my mill, at each end of which is a journal-box, a. Through each of these is passed a journal, b, with screw-threads upon its inner end, which is screwed into a hub, B, and the two hubs connected by a central shaft, O. Upon the inner face of each hub B is firmly secured a burr, D, and as the power used is connected by a belt with a pulley upon one of the journals b the burrs D D are made to revolve together. E E represent two beams or bars laid across the frame A and attached to the same by means of screws d d passing through elongated slots in the ends of said beams, as shown in Fig. l. Upon and between the beams EE is arranged the hopper G, and on the outer sides of the beams are secured the stationary burrs D D', the central shaft O passing through feed-openings in their centers. The hopper thus feeds both sets of burrs. The beams or bars E E are connected by means of set-screws H H, by means of which the stationary burrs are moved closer to or further from the movable bars, as may be desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The arrangement, in a feed-mill, of a hopper, G, between and feeding two sets of burrs, substantially as herein set fort-l1.
2. The combination of the hubs B B, burrs D D, shaft C, and journals b b, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combination of the adjustable bars E E, moved by the set-screws H H, the hopper G, and burrs Dl D', all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two Witmesses.
