Description

L. J. INGRAM.
HAMES FASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 9.. 1916.
1,204,774. I Patented Nov. 14, 1916.
QuueMo c fdiZZ LEWIS J. INGRAM, OF ANGUS, TEXAS.
HAMES-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 14, 1916.
Application filed May 9, 1916. Serial No. 96,376.
To all whom it may concern Y Be it known that I, LEWIS J. INGRAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Angus, in the county of Navarro and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Flames-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to hames fasteners, and more particularly to the class of strap fasteners for hames.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a fastener of this character wherein the hames string can be adjusted on the hames so that the latter will snugly fit the horse collar and when such strap is adjusted the same will be securely fastened to hold the hames tightly upon the collar.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hames strap fastener of this character wherein the same is mounted upon the hames and will permit the easy adjustment of the hames strap with despatch and will securely hold the hames upon the horse collar.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a hames strap fastener of this character wherein the construction thereof is novel in form to assure the tight and firm fastening of the hames strap and also to permit a wide range of adjustment thereof for the fastening of the hames about dif ferent sizes of horse collars.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a fastener of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in operation, strong, durable and inexpensive in manufacture.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth.
The invention accordinglv consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and the scope of the appli cation of which will be indicated in the ap pended claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pair of hames and the hames strap, showing the fasteners constructed in accordance with the invention upon the hames; Fig. 2 is an edge elevation thereof; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is asectional View on the line M of Fig.2; Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates each hame, which is of the usual contour, and these hames are adapted to be adjustably and detachably fastened about a horse collar through the medium of a hame strap Bin the usual well known manner. Secured to the outer edge of each hame A is a metallic reinforcing strip 5, While formed in opposite edges of the said strip 5 near the upper end thereof are notches 6 in which is engaged a bearing strap 7 Swingingly supported upon a pivot 8 therein is a keeper 9 formed with a series of alternately arranged notches and teeth 10 and 11, while arranged within a suitable recess 12 formed in the hame A next to the strip 5 is a latch 13 which is supported upon a pivot 14 and is acted upon by a coiled expansion spring 15 within the recess 12 so as to normally hold the latch 13 in position for locking engagement with a hook 16 formed on the tooth 11 at the outermost end of the keeper 9' to lock the same in closed position so as to engage with the strap B when about the hames A for the fastening of the latter upon a horse collar.
In the front face of the hame A is a notch 17 which permits access to be had to the end adjacent thereto of the latch 13 so that the finger can be engaged with the latch for swinging the same to releasing position against the action of the spring 15 for the freeing of the keeper 9 so as to permit the adjustment of the hames strap B upon the hames and the fastening of the strap by the keeper 9 when closed-and locked by the latch. 13 engaging therewith.
The engagement of the bearing strap 7 in the notches 6 in the strip 5 prevents displacement of the said bearing on the strip, said strip 5 being fastened upon the hame in any suitable manner.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
the construction and manner of use of the herein described hames fastener will be readfly understood and, therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.
bearing strap, a keeper pivotally supported in the bearing strap and adapted to adjustably receive the hame strap, and a spring 10 held latch pivoted in the hame and engageable with the keeper to lock the same closed. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
