To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL H. SGHENDLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of the same, reference being had to the accom-.
panying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to emergency pressure'release mechanism for clothes wringers, and consistsin providing suitable mechanism in a clothes wringer, whereby the pressure exerted upon the upper wringer roll may be instantly released.
Where a clothes wringer is drlven by some motor, electric or water power, it frequently happens that the fingers of the operator are caught between the rollers, and the operator severely injured before the motor can be stopped; and it isto avoid accidents of this sort that I have devised my emergency mechanism.
The features of my invention will appear hereinafter, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1, is a side view of a clothes wringer provided with my improved pressure release mechanism. Fig. 2, is a top or plan view of the same, with portions thereof in horizontal section.

D D indicate irons placed between the springs D, D, and the lower'ends of the screws D, connected by a board D", for the'purpose of guiding the upper ends of the springs D, all of which parts are old and well known in clothes wringers.
In ordinary practice the screws D, D, are mounted in a continuous transverse bar, secured to the upper ends of the end posts A, A. In carrying out my invention I remove this-continuous transverse bar from the upper ends of the end posts A, A, and substitute therefor a bar E, having secured on the ends thereof plates E, E, E, E, by means of screws or rivets e, which plates are bolted to the end posts A, A, by means of bolts 6 e e e Secured between plates E, at each end of the bar E, are blocks F, F, by means of the pivot bolts f; and mounted in the blocks F, F, are pressure regulating screws D, D. Secured upon the upper side of the bar E, are plates G, G, the rear ends of which are connected by means of the short bar 9, (see Fig. 2) which is pivoted to the bar E, by means of the pivot g and to each of the bars G, G, by means of the pivots 9 The opposite ends of the bars G, Gr,'are retained in contact with the bar E, by means of transverse rollers H, which are mounted between ears h, k, h, h, on the plates E, E, E, E; the ends of the plates G, G, extending beyond the ends of the bar E, and over the entire ends of the blocks F, for the purpose of holding the blocks F, in the position thereof shown in full lines in Fig. 1.
For operating plates G, G, I provide a lever J, which passes through the opening in the plate G, and is pivoted in a recess 6 upon the rivet e, as shown in Fig. 1. I provide a spring j, to normally maintain the lever J, in a raised position, as shown in full lines in Fig. 1.
In operation, if the lever J, is pressed downwardly, as shown by broken lines in Fig. 1, the platesG, G, will be caused to slide toward each other upon the bar E, thus releasing the entire ends of the blocks F, and permitting the springs D, D,' to force the blocks F, to swing upwardly upon the pivot f, as shown by broken lines in Fig. 1; so that the roller B, can be raised upwardly away from the roller C, as shown by broken lines in Fig. 1.
Having thus fully illustrated and described mechanism embodying my invention, so as to enable others to utilize the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the class described, a
. transverse bar secured to the side posts of a wringer-frame, blocks pivoted in the ends of said bar, pressure regulating screws mounted in said blocks, latch plates secured upon said transverse bar adapted to engage the free ends of said blocks, and a lever adapted to operate said latch plates to' simultaneously release both of said blocks, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, a bar having bifurcated ends adapted to be secured in the upper end of a clothes wringer frame, blocks pivoted in said bifurcated ends, said blocks adapted to receive pres sure regulating screws, latch mechanism adapted to retain said blocks in alinement with said bar, and a spring pressed lever adapted to operate said latch mechanism, substantially as set forth.
