TRAIN-CHECK HOLDER.
Speeeationof Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 17, 1916.-
Applieation filed November 23, 1914. Serial No. 873,639.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of the character named which may be readily attached to the seat of a car and which is adapted to hold a train check for each passenger in the seat in such manner that the conductor will easily see the punch marks therein. y
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fragment of a car seat showing the improved check holder applied; Fig. 2, is an enlargedV plan view of the holder; Fig. 3, a vertical longitudinal section of same; Fig. 4f, a transverse section of the holder; Fig. 5, a perspective view, of the central section of the holder; Fig. 6, a perspective view of the inner section of the holder, and Fig. 7 is a fragmentary view of the upper portion of the outer member of the device.
Referring to the drawings the train check holder is shown as comprising an outer member A, a central member B, and an inner member C. The outer member A is U- shaped in cross section and includes arms 10 and 11, and an arm connecting portion 12. The free ends of the arms 10 and 11 are recessed to form shoulders 13. These arms 10 and 11 at the upper end of the member A are provided respectively with extensions 14, while the lower end of the arm connecting portion 12 is provided with an extension 15 having a screw passage 16 therethrough. '55
Likewise the extensions 14 are provided with screw passages 17 which are interrupted by the recesses forming the shoulders 13.- vThe central member B is also U-shaped Y in cross section and includes arms 18 and 19, 6
and an arm connecting portion 20. The free ends of the arms 18 and 19 are provided respectiyely with laterally extending wings 21 which bear against respective shoulders 13, the major portion of the member B being projected into the member A as will be obvious. The wings 21 areprovided respectively with recesses 22 which mate with the interrupted portions of respective passages 17. Integral with the arm connecting portion 20 is a leaf spring 22 which bears against the inner side of the arm connecting portion 12 of the member A. y
The inner member C comprises a plate 23 which bears against the wings 21 and is pro- 75k vided in its side edges with recesses 24 which mate with respective interrupted portions of the passages 17. The lower end of the plate 23 is provided with an extension 25 which projects between the arms 18 30 and 19. A leaf spring 26 is integral with one side of the plate 23 and bears against the inner side of the arm connecting portion 20 of the member B. Suitable screws 27 are passed through the passages 17 and recesses 85 22 and 24 and then into the car seat frameA and in this way the various members of the holder are held to the car seat in assembled Y relation and in such manner as to form two compartments in eachof which may be inserted a traincheck. These checks are of course held between the spring 22 and arm connecting portion 12, and between the y spring 26 and arm connecting portion 20.
The checks may be adjusted readily to dif- 95.
ferent heights so that the'punch marks on each check may be readily observed by the conductor as he passes through the aisle.
That is claimed isz-4 A train check holder comprising an outer member having a U-shaped cross section, a central member having a U-shaped cross section disposed in the first member with its arm connecting portion spaced from the arm connecting portion of the outer member, an
inner member spanning the arms of the central member, a common means for securing said members in assembled relation and to a support, t spring Carried by the arm con- In testimony whereof, I aHX my signi meeting portion of the central member and ture, in the presence of tWo Witnesses. bearn against the arm connecting portion of thegouter member, and a spring carried HERBERT P XVHITCOMB' by the inner member and bearing against tnesses:
