SAFETY-RAZOR.

To all whom it ma 3 concern Be it known that I, CARL C. KING, a citi zen of the United States, residing at lVashington, in the District of Columbia. have invented a new and useful Improvement in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to safety razors, and more particularly to the manner of clamping or holding the blade or blades.
' the object being to provide a holder in which thick or hollow ground blades or other single edged blades. or a double edged blade. if desired, may be employed.
Another object of the invention is to provide the handle of the holder with a swiveled finger rest whereby the manipulation of the device is greatly facilitated.
A further object of the invention is to provide exceedingly quick and simple means for securing the blade or blades whereby a part revolution of a locking cam or of the handledraws together and binds the several members of the razor.
With these objects in. view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification: Figure 1 is a side view of a safety razor constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is -a face view. the lower end being shown in section to illustrate the manner of connecting the swiveled finger rest. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation showing the manner of fastening the blades.

In carrying out my invention I employ a double edged guard A, which is provided with the usual construction of comb edges A, and with openings A (and a central opening may be provided in certain instances as shown in Fig. 7). At either end of this guard I preferably form a boss B, having a threaded aperture B in which the threaded end C of the handle C can be screwed whenever desired. of this guard is provided with longitudinal ribs D and at one end stop lugs E are provided to limit the movement of the blades arranged upon the guard andheld in place by means of the clamping plate F. said plate F preferably having a central longitudinal rib F from which extends depending pins 1, which are adapted to be passed through the apertures A" in the guard plate. ard it will be noted that each of these depending pins is provided with a notch or reccss F. The blades G are formed with longitudinal grooves G, produced adjacent the back or thick edge of the blade. aml when placed upon the guard plate the longitudinal ribs of said plates fit into the longitudinal grooves produced in the blades and the clan'iping plate F is then arranged to cover the said blades (1 the pins F passing downwardly between the opposing backs of said blades and through the guard plate: and for the purpose of securely clamping the plate F to the guard plate and at the same time clamping the blades for operation. I employ a knob or locking cam II which may be pivoted to the guard plate by a short shank ll headed into the central portion of thc guard plate in one construction as shown in Fig. i. This knob or locking cam is constructed with a disk portion H which is in the form of a double cam or wedge, inasmuch as it gradually increases in thickness as shown atH aml terminates in a stop fl. there being notches ll in order to permit the shaping plate pins to be withdrawn, it being understood. of course. that this knob or locking cam is turned so as to bring the double wedges into engagement with the notched portion of the pins, thereby drawing down the clamping plate firmly upon the blades as clearly shown in the drawings.
In Fig. 7 the clamping plate is provided with a central depending pin (or this central pin may be secured to the guard plate as a matter of choice), whereas in the other constructions said central pin is dispensed with. In this construction the knob or locking cam turns upon a central sleeve.
When single edged blades are employed, they may be slid in from one end of the guard and clamping plates until they are stopped by engaging the stop lugs E at the opposite end, and the clamping operation can then tak place,
It is apparent that a double edged flexible blade may be used in the holder; the depending pins acting as positioning means and the wedge-shaped cams of the locking device drawing the cap toward the guard plate when thehandle is rotated and flexing the blade transversely over the ribs of the guard plate.
After the parts are clamped the razor can be used with the parts arranged as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and l, or the threaded end of the handlewhere the handle is made detachable from the locking cammay be intro duced into either one of the"threaded lugs or bosses at the end of the guard plate, as may best suit the user.
Now. in order to render the device easy of manipulation, I provide a swiveled finger rest I, bifurcated. or of other suitable form. asshown at I, to receive the finger. said finger rest being mounted uponthe end I and secured by 'means of the screw I, this construction permitting the free rotation of the rest upon the reduced end of the handle. and it will be. found that by having the end of the handle turn freely, the razor can be more freely manipulated than it could be without such freely turning linger rest.
\Vhile I have shown the finger rest mounted pivotally upon a reduced end of the handle, it is apparent that other simple means of forming a pivot jointbetween the body of the handle and the finger rest may be eniployed, and I do not desire to limit myself to the construction shown.
' It will be seen that I provide a safety razor capable of employing either single edged blades or a double edged blade as may be, desired. and it will be. noted that the said blades or blade can be quickly and most easily attached to or detached from the holder by a part revolution of the locking cam, and it will'be still further noted that the handle, owing to the. swireled finger rest. greatly facilitates the manipulation of the device as a shaving instrument.
Having described my invention. what I' claim as new and desire to secure by-Letters Patent is:
1. In a razor of the kind described. the combination with a guard plate and single edged blades, of a clamping plate having notched depending pins. one of said plates being providedwith longitudinal ribs. said ribs bearing upon the single cuttting edge blades. a handle. and a locking cam having substantially wedge-shaped disks engaging the notches of the pins and drawing together and binding the guard clamping plate;
2. In a safety razor. the combination with a detachable handle having a threaded enth of a guard plate carrying, detachable blades having longitudinal grooves, a blade clamping plate having longitudinal ribs coacting with the longitudinal grooves of the blades. notched pins carried by the clamping plate. a knobprovided .with cam shaped plate. blades and disks engaging the notehed'depending pins of the clamping plate, said knob having a threaded bore rece ving the threaded end of the handle.
3. In a safety razor, a holder comprising a plate having notched depending pins, a

thickness wedge-like and terl ninating at a stop at the other end. the wedge-like portions of the locking cam ei' gaging the notches of the depending pins of the clamping plate tobind the parts together.
7. In a safety razor. 'a holder comprising a guard plate. .a clamping plate. notched [)llls carried by one of said plates. and a detachable handle provided with means on one end thereof engaging said notched pins when the handle-is rotated whereby a part revolution of said handle drawsand holds the handle and the said plates together.
(3. In a safety razor. the combination with blade hohling means provided with shouldered pins. of a detachable handle carry-'ing, means engagingthe shoulders of the'pins thereby attaching said handle to the blade holding means.
