Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 20, 1918. Serial No. 218,280.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HoHANNIs A. ANA- NIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This inventionrelates to improvements in toys having rotatable figures, a propeller for directing the breath of the wheel, so as to impart the user against to the same and thus actua rotary motion ate the figures.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a toy of the above character, which will be durable and efficient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one that can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved toy,

Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a slightly modified form of the toy, showing the same removed from the blowing tube,

Fig. 6 is a transverse section taken on the line 66 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 generally indicates the improved toy which includes the tube 2, which forms the means for directing the breath of the user against the propeller wheel 3, which will be hereinafter more fully described.
The tube 2 can be formed of any suitable material, such as tin or the like and can be formed of any length desired.
A frame 4 is provided for supporting the propeller wheel 3 and the same is preferably formed from a single blank of metal bent arcuately to form the supporting bracket 5 which has formed on its forward end the upwardly extending arms 6 in which is journaled the shaft 7 on which is keyed or otherwise secured the propeller wheel 3. The rear end of the arcuate portion 5 is provided with side extensions which are rolled to form the short tubular portion 8 which is adapted to frictionally fit in the bore of the tube 2.
The ends of the shaft 7 are extended beyond the sides of the arms 6 and have rigidly secured thereto figures 9 which may be of any desired form or shape. The periphery of the propeller wheel 3 is with radially extending cuts 10 and the portions lying between the cuts are bent angularly to provide vanes or blades 11 and the propeller wheel is so positioned that the tubular portion 8 lies above the horizontal axis of the same, so that when the user blows in the tube 2, his breath will be directed against the blades 11 which will in turn rotate the propeller wheel and the -shaft 7 and thus actuate the figures 9.
In Figs. 4, 5, and 6 a slightly modified form of the invention is illustrated and in this form the figures 12 are secured on vertical shafts 13, which are journaled in laterally extending bent portions 14: formed on the upper ends of the supporting arms 6. The arms 6 are also provided with struck out portions 15 in which the lower ends of the vertical shafts 13 are journaled as at 16. In this form, the shaft 7 has its ends provided with pinions or gears 17 which mesh with crown gears 18 keyed or otherwise secured to the vertical shafts 13. Thus it will be seen that when the propeller wheel 3 is rotated, motion will be imparted through the medium of the gears 17 and 18 to the vertical shafts 13 thus rotating the figures 12.
From the foregoing description it can be seen that an improved toy is provided, which is simple and durable in construction, which is easy to operate and affords a great deal of amusement to the person operating the same.
In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most eiiicient and practical; yet

realizing the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may when required without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention as set forth.
What I claim as new is 1. A. toy of the class described comprising a frame formed from a single blank of metal having an arcuate portion, upwardly extending arms formed on the forward end thereof,a shaft j ournaled between the arms at the upper end thereof, a propeller Wheel keyed to the shaft, rotatable figures, means operatively connecting the figures to the shaft, wings formed on the rear end of the arcuate bracket-and rolled to form a tubu-- lar portion, and a blowing tube arranged to receive the tubular extension.
