To all whom it may concern Be'it known that I, MILTON E. Book, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ematon, in the county of Stevens, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Reels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in reeling and unreeling devices and particularly to devices for reeling and unreeling fence wire.

One object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which can be easily and quickly attached to the rear end of a farm wagon and turned to unwind the wire as the wagon moves forwardly.

Another'object is to provide novel and improved means whereby the device can be easily and effectively operated to wind the old fence wire when the same has been removed from the fence.

A further object is to provide a novel and improved construction of device of this character whereby the filled spool of wire, or the spool to receive the wire can be easily and quickly placed on or taken from the device.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the body of a farm wagon and 11 the rear axle thereof,

,in connection with which my invention is used. Engaged over the rear axle are the forward hook ends 12 of two rearwardly extending bars or links 13, vertical pins 14 being disposed through said hook ends rearwardly of the axle to hold said links in engagement with the axle. Secured to the rear end of each of the links is a two part bean ing member 15, the same being held together by means of the bolts 16. Rotatably mounted in each of these hearings is a spindle 17, the other end of which is secured within one end of a tubular shaft or axle 18. Rotatably supported on this shaft is a drum l9, and carried by one end of the drum and rotatable therewith is a ground engaging wheel 20. Pivotally mounted on the other end of the drum are the spokes 21, the outer ends of which are detachably connected, by means of the bolts 22, to the apertured lugs 23 of the felly 24, said parts cooperating, when properly engaged with each other to form the other ground engaging wheel of the cart.

Pivotally connected to each of the links 13 is a section 25 of a brace member, the other portion 26 being slidably connected therewith and having its other end enga edover the upper edge of the end gate 2 wagon. These sections of the braces are adapted to be adjusted longitudinally with respect to each other to permit the ground wheels to engage with the ground in one instance, and to hold the cart in elevated position so that the wheels will not touch the ground.

When it is desired to apply the wire spool 28 on the drum, the bolts 22 are removed and the spokes 21 swun on their pivots until they liein an exten ed position longitudinally from the end of the drum, and in such position that the spool can be readily slipped thereover. It will, of course, be understood that the adjacent bearing is opened.

to release the spindle carried thereby, so that the link can drop down to the ground. and thus be out of the way when the spool is lifted to be slipped onto the drum. Then, as the wagon is driven forwardly, the wheels of the cart will be turned so that the drum will turn and cause the unwinding of the wire on the spool.

When the device is used for reeling old fence wire which has been removed from the posts, the wheels of the wagon are fixed by blocks so that the wagon will not move, and the braces 25-26 adjusted so that'the cart is lifted from the ground, then the fixed wheel of the car is turned to rotate the drum, the wire being first secured at one end thereto.

What is claimed is:

l. A wire reeling and unreeling device inends of the drum and rotatable therewith,

the spokes of one of the wheels being detachable from the felly thereof and foldable to extend longitudinally from the end of the drum to permit the application of a Wire spool on the drum.
