INVENTOR 2 Ca/x/V//f ff Haga/7 BY' /Lmea/ynu ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATE FFICE.
CALVIN H. HAGAN, or SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, AssIGNoE To CHARLES E. WHITTLESEY,
oF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON. p y
` FIEEPLAcE-EURNACE.
To all lwhom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CALVIN H. HAGAN, a citizen of the United States, residin at Seattle, in the county of King and tate of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in F ireplace-Furnaces, of which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to {ire-place heaters; and its object is the perfecting of devices of'this character to renderthe same more economical and eflicient in operation.
The invention consists in the novel adaptation' and arrangement of the smoke iue, and of the chambers and passages in which air is introduced and heated; and also in the provision of novel devices for moistening the heated air in a substantially uniform manner.
The invention further consists in the novel features of construction and the com- A bination thereof as will hereinafter be described andclaimed.
In the accompanying drawings,-
Figure l is a front elevational view, shown partly in section of a fire-place furnaceembodying my invention, said section being taken substantially through 1 1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a' section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3' is a sectional view through 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a section through 4 4 of Fig. 3.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a casing which isdivided into upper and lower portions A and B by a floor partition 5, the same preferably extending in front of said upper portion to furnish a mantel shelf 6.
The space within said lower portion is divided by a transverse wall 7, into two chambers 8 and 9. Extending from the front casing wall 10 to the wall 7 are side andtop walls 11 and 12 of the {ire-place F proper. The top wall 12 of said fire-place inclines upwardly as shown in Fig. 2 to the lower end of a smoke flue consisting of a series of connected inclined elements 13, 131 and 132 disposed within the upper part of the chamber 8 and connected by a flue member 133 which extends through the,
Extending upwardly through the chamber 9 and at one side of the same, is a cold Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 25, 1919.
Application led April 2'5, 1918. Serial No. 230,787.
The hot air pipe 23 also communicates from the bottom of a diving duct 24 through a ioor opening 221, said diving duct is afforded by a partition 25 at the opposite side of chamber 9 from the air inlet duct 16. The walls 11 and 12 within the chamber 8, it is noted, afford a rising duct 81 and a diving duct 82 at opposite sides of the fire-place.
Provided in the chamber 9 and in juxtaposition with the wall 7 at the rear of the fire-place F is a water receptacle 26 which Ais divided by partitions 27 extending down of the compartments.
Leading from the compartments 14a, 8fL and 24, into the respective chambers 14 and 8 and the diving duct 24 for the cha1nber 9 are pipes 14", 8b and 24b for the purpose of conducting steam to suitably moisten the air. The air chamber 14 is provided with a hot air outlet 30 which, as illustrated in Fig. 3 is disposed at the top to supply, for instance an upstairs room.
Y explained as follows.:
VVThe;k operation of vthe invention` i may be Theheatvgyenerated in irerplace,
