MAURICE H. AVED, OF HARVEY, NORTH DAKOTA.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 25, 1919.
Application filed January 22, 1919. Serial No. 272,515.
To all who/1r it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAURICE H. Avian, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harvey, in the county of Wells and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-S111 porters, of which the following is a specifi cation, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in garment supporters, and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character of a shoulder suspension type for coaction with a waist-line body garment, and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character which, when in ap plied position, is completely concealed by a dress shirt, so that the supporter is of the type known as invisible.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved supporter of this general character wherein the use of metal or the like is minimized, and wherein the straps comprised therein have freedom of movement at the back to readily compensate for the movements of the shoulders of the wearer.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved supporter of this type which may be readily and conveniently engaged with the waist-line body garment, and wherein the straps comprised in the supporter are capable of unhindered oscillation to assure the requisite adjustments of the device to the body so that the straps will not have a tendency to creep or crawl under the armpits and chafe.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved garment supporter whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I willnow proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation illustr'at ing a garment supporter constructed in actordance with an embodiment of my invention; and i Fig. 2 is a fragn'ientary view in perspective illustrating the sliding connection between the straps of the supporter where the same cross at the back.
As disclosed in the accolnpanying drawings, my improved garment supporter comprises two straps S adapted to be disposed over the shoulder so that shoulder suspension may be had for a waist-line body garment. Each of the straps S comprises two sections 1 and 2 of elastic webbing having their inner end portions in overlying relation as indicated at 3 and with said overlying portions of one section disposed longitudinally of the second section. The inner extremity of each of the sections 1 and 2 is stitched or otherwise secured as at 4 to the second section so that the overlying portions 3 afford an elongated loop.
The looped portions of both of the straps S are in cross relation with the wall of each of the loops nearest the body disposed through the second loop so that the straps S are capable of slipping or sliding movement. one relative to the other. and in a manner to permit said crossed portions of the straps to have relative oscillation in accordance with the movements of the body, and particularly the shoulders. of the person wearing the supporter.
. The outer extremities of the front sections 1 of the straps are returned in a conventional manner for coaction with the adjusting slide 5 so thatthe straps S may be lengthened or shortened as the occasions of practice may necessitate.
The rear extremities of the straps S or more particularly the outer extremities of the sections 2 of the straps have secured thereto the loop members 6 to which are suitably secured the extremities of the nonstretchable textile bands B. Each of the bands B is returned upon itself to afford an elongated loop, and said band is threaded through a loop member 7 carried by the forward extremity of a strap S or the outer extremity of a section 1 of said strap.
Engaging each of the stretches of a band B is one of the bars 8 of the securing member or button fastener 9, and which fastener the band B. The fastener 9 is also of a type which may be readily disposed over a button secured to the inner face of a waist-line body garment. v
In view of the foregoing, it will be at once self evident that my improved supporter .is
of a type which permits both back slip or. slide and side slip or slide, which serves to effectually distribute the weight of the trousers or other waist-line body garment on the two bands or loops B which, when the supporter is applied to a person, are arranged at opposite sides of the individual. These slipping or sliding movements serve to substantially eliminate the waist-line body garment from bulging out either at the front or V back andcauses the garmentto hang naturally with comfort to the wearer.
My improved supporter is applied with ease and facility and is adapted to be interposed between the undershirt and dress shirt a so that the supporter will be invisible. When my supporter is'applied'the straps S are disposed over the shoulders with the crossed portions thereof at the back of the person withthe button fasteners 9 at the sides rid-- jacent the waist-line so that in order to engage the fasteners with the waist-line body garment it is only necessary to unfasten one of the lower buttons of the dress shirt and insert a hand to engage a fastener 9 with a button carried by the waist-line garment.
7 body garment.
waist-line garments in proper position; It
is also to be understood that in'the use of my supporter a belt need not be employed for the purpose of suspension so that injurious effects of belt wearing may be materially reduced. r I
It is also to be understood that my improved supporter maybe applied with ease and convenience, and that theuse of metallic parts is substantially eliminated, so that the device may be worn with comfort, especially copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents;
in the summer time, when they are adapted to be used mostly with underwear of the well known B. V. D. type. It will also be' supporter readily permits my device to adjust itself to'a short-waisted or a long-waisted body, and this, together with the sliding movement of the button fasteners 9 on the non-elastic bands B adjusts the hanglof the trousers or other waisteline body garments i in such a manner as to effect thearequisite suspension of such garment. V i i From the foregoing description, it is thought to beobvious that a garment-sup porter constructed in accordance withmy invention is particularly well adapte d for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may beassembled and opera ated, and it will also be obvious that my in-" j vention' is susceptible of some change and modification without departing 7 from the principles and spirit thereof, and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts hereinshown in carrying out my invention in practlce except as hereinafter clalmed.
I claim:
A garment supporter comprisingtWo straps crossed one over the other and adapted to be disposed over the shoulders of the wearer, bands connecting the adjacent ex tremities of the straps, and garment attach ing members engaged withsaid bands, each of said straps comprising two sections ofwebbmg, the inner end portions of the sections overlapping with the extremity ofeach section secured to the other section resulting in a loop, a wall of the loop of each strap be;
ing threaded through the loop of the second strap. p v r I In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence'of two witnesses.
