Be it known that I, FRANK H. WARNER, of Toledo, Lucas county, Ohio, a citizen of the United States of America, have invented a new and useful Burner, of which the following is a Specification.
This invention relates to structures for promoting; combustion.
This invention has utility when incorporated in burners for the vaporization and combustion of liquid fuels. 1

The heater or base burner 1 may have its magazine removed therefrom and such passage closed, while its fire pot 2 may have anchored thereto by means of the bolts 3, the burner device having the base 4. This base 4 is of ring form having rising therefrom the inner wall 5 and the outer concentric flangeor wall 6. Centrally, the base 4 has the opening 7 The pair of bolts 8 extending upward through the wall 5 pass through the tubular legs 9 of the bafiie or priming pan 10 to have anchoring engagement with the vaporizer 11.
The baflle or pan 10 is provided with a flange 12 overhanging beyond the wall 5, from which wall 5 the baffle 10 is spaced by its tubular legs, to form communication between the inner central chamber 13, and the surrounding annular chamber'l4. The annular chamber 14 has the outer wall 15 seating within the flange 6 and resting upon the three radiating flanges or ribs 16 extending between the walls 5 and ,6 of the base 4. The outer wall 15 remote from the flange 6 curves inwardly to provide a lip or seat 17. As an outlet from the chamber 14, there is a perforate wall 18 extending from the flange 12 to the seat 17. j
To start the burner, the fuel oil, as ordinary kerosene, may be poured as a slight priming portion into the funnel 19 to pass by the small pipe or duct 20 to saturate the asbestos 21 on the baflie 10. This fuel is ignited, and as free combustion occurs, fuel from the tank 22 by the pipe 23, is permitted to flow by opening the valve 24. This pipe 23 extends'up through the base wall 5 and a leg 9 of the baffle 10 to engage the intake terminus 25 of the vaporizer coil 11. This liquid fuel in passing over the priming heat from the baflie 10, is rendered gaseous and flows through the vaporizer outlet 26 and through the pipe 27 to the jet 28 opening upwardcentrally of the chamber 13.
The chamber 13 has a ledge 29 on which rest. the radiating arms 30 of the mixing passage-or funnel 31 directing the as flow toward the under side of the ba e 10 to draw in air not only through the funnel but thereabout, while further mixing of the fuel with air occurs in the passing of this fuel mixture from the chamber 13 over the top of the wall 5 between the legs 9 into the chamber 14. This thoroughly carbureted fuel in the annular chamber 14 passes out through the perforate wall 18 and the priming combustion ignites this vaporizedfuel for a complete burning or combustion region adjacent the vaporizer 11, which is effective to continue the vaporization.
In operating this burner at some capacities, the intensity of thecombustion region heating may create excess of radiation in the walls of the chamber 14. This condition may be overcome by mounting the annular wall 32 by a set of lugs 33 on the wall 15. This will permit a third air mixing by upward flow through the openings 34 between the members or walls 15, 32.
While the pipe 23 and bolts 8 coact through the assembled Vaporizer, baflie and base, the pipe 27 is assembled only with the baffleand vaporizer. The plugs 35 removable from the vaporizer permit ready access in the event of carbonizing or other clogging.
The valve 24 may be adjusted to get the desired burning rate, either ofa ring through the wall 18 or a full glory volume. The perforate wall prevents back flash. The vaporized fluid with air thoroughly mixed therewith then fiows against the hot baffle 10 herein for the production of a burner operating for complete combustion of lower grade liquid fuels. The burner is of a form which may be readily installed in hard fuel stoves, heaters or furnaces, for cooking or other heating purposes.
What is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A burner embodying a jet, a funnel into which the ct is directed, a baffle in the path of flow from the funnel, a. Vaporizer carried by the baflie extending thereacross and connected to supply the jet, a supply for the vaporizer, and a housing providing an annular upwardly extending perforate wall for mixed fuel flow inward from under the baffle to adjacent the 'aporizer.
2. A burner comprising a base having concentric walls, a bailie mounted upon and spaced from the top of an inner wall, a perforate upwardly extending wall connecting the baffle with a concentric wall to form above the baflie a combustion chamber and fuel supply means extending past the battle through said. chamber and thence therehelow for imeheatingthe fuel before pinbustion adjacent the perforate wall.
3. A burner comprising a centrally open base havin an annular chamber about said opening, a fuel mixer in said opening, there being communication between the central merge is opening and the chamber for flow of mixed fuel into the chamber, and an upwardly extending perforate wall providing a mixed fuel inward flow annular outlet from the chamber determining a combustion region for the burner.
l. A burner comprising a base provided with a pair of concentric walls forming an annular chamber, a Vaporizer disposed within the inner wall of the chamber, and a fuel mixer connected to the vaporizer and disposed therebelow for supplying gaseous fuel to the chamber, said chamber being provided with an annular inwardly directed outlet determining a combustion region'adjacent the vaporizer.
A burner comprising a base having a pair of concentric walls forming an annular chamber, a bame mounted upon and spaced from the iimer wall, a perforate upwardly extending wall forming an outlet inward from the annular chamber, said perforate wall connecting the bafie to the outer Wall, and providing a combustion chamber over the battle, and fuel supply meansbelow the baiiio for fuel flow to the chamber and through the chamber outlet.
