ATTACHMENT FOR RADIATOR-'HOODS.
Specification of Letters'Patent.
Patented Mar. 11, 1919.
Application filed september 19, 19118. SeriaLNo. 254,803.
To all wkomc't may concern: 7
Be it known that I, ANGELoAUFIERI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Radiator-Hoods, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to attachment for radiator hoods, and has for its object to provide a device, in a manner as hereinafter set which can be conveniently mounted on the forward end of the radiator hood of an automobile, and automatically revolve during the travel of the automobile, or revolve by the wind when the automobile is at a standstill.
Further objects of the invention are to provide an Ornamental attachment for the radiator hood of an automobile which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, patriotic in design, visible at night, capable of attracting attention and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of an automobile body, broken away, showing the adaptation thereof of an attachment in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the attach ment.
Fig. 3 is a section on line III-111, Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a section on line IV-IV, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail 1 denotes an automobile, broken away, and to the hood thereof is secured a shouldered hollow post 2, by the retaining device 8. Leading-in-wires 1 extend through a suitable electrical source, not shown, from the post 2, to an electric lamp 5. The shoulder of the post 2, which constitutes a bearing is indicated at 6.
Loosely mounted upon the bearing 6, is an apertured post 7, of a supporting yoke.
The arms of the yoke are indicated at 8, 9, and extend upwardly and outwardly at an inclination, and each terminating in an angle shaped arm 10.
Fixed to thepost 2, below the lamp 5, is an angle shaped lower end ,11, of a retaining bar 12; the latter is.bent partly around the lamp 5, and is provided with a perpendicular upper end 13, which is in alinement with the axisofthe post 2.
The 'bar 12, is shouldered as atl t, to provide a bearing, for a brace member 15, having depending ends 16; the brace member 15 is attached in alinement with the yoke 9, and is apertu-red as at 17 for the passage of the end 13, of the bar 12.
The reference characters 18, 19, denote a pair of vertically disposed frames of ogee curvature, and which are connected together at their ends as at 20.
Each of the frames is rectangular in contour and the top and bottom bars thereof are channel shaped as at 21, toprovide seats.
The angle-shaped arms 10, are arranged between and secured to the bottoms of the frames 18, 19, and the depending ends 16, of the brace member 15, are arranged betigeein and secured to the tops of the frames Yoke and arms 19, form what may be termed a combined support and brace member for the frames 18, 19, and a like function is performed by the brace member 15.
Mounted in the seats 21, of each ofthe frames 18, 19, is a transparent panel 22, provided with a representation of the national emblem 28. Projecting from the frames 18, 19, at one end is a Red Cross emblem as at 24:, and projecting from the other end of the frames 18, 19, is a service flag emblem as at 25.
During the travel of the vehicle the frames will be revolved carrying the panels and emblems therewith, and when the vehicle is at a standstill the wind will cause the revolving of the frames.
The emblem 23, is visible at night owing to the arrangement of the electrical lamp 5.
What I claim is:
1. An attachment for an automobile radiator hood comprising a revoluble yoke provided with angle-shaped arms, a support for the yoke, a lamp carried by the support, a bar secured to the support and extending around and above the lamp, a brace member revolubly mounted on said bar, opposed frames secured to said arms and to sald member and :havlng sald lamp arranged therebetween, and transparent panels mounted in said frames and each pro,
vided with a representation of an emblem.
2. An attachment for an automobile radiator hood comprising a revoluble yoke provided with angle shaped arms, a support I frames secured to said arms and to said member and having said lamp arranged therebetween, transparent panels mounted 1n said frames and each provided With a representation of an emblem, and means to Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, I
pro ide the representation of an i emblem projectingfrom each end of said frames.
3. An attachment for automobile radiator 20 hoods comprisinga pair of, frames of ogee curvature, a shouldered support, a yoke revolubly mounted on the shoulder of thesupport and terminating in a pair of angle shaped arms, a bar secured to said support and having a shouldered upper end, a brace member revolubly mounted on the shoulder of thebar and having depending ends, opposed frames of ogee curvature secured to the depending ends of the bracemem'ber and to said angle-shaped arms, and transparent panels mounted in said frames.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ANGELO AUFIERI.
