STORM SASH AND DOOR FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1919.
Application filed December 4, 1918. Serial No. 265,250.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL FRIAR', a citizen of the United States, residingv at Blanchard, in the county of Traill and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Storm Sash and Door Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to door and window sash fasteners, and more particularly to a fastener for storm windows, doors and screens.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and eflicient device of the character referred to, specially designed and adapted for use in fastening storm windows, screens or doors, but capable of being used for various other purposes.
The invention will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification; and will then be pointed out in'the claims at the end of the description.
In said drawings wherein I have illustrated a preferred form of embodiment of the invention applied to a storm window sash:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window showing my improved fastener afran-ged to hold the storm window-sash firmly in place while permitting it' to be easily adjusted or removed;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged front view of the fastener, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring to said drawings, in which the same reference letters are used to denote corresponding parts in different views, the letter A denotes a storm sash and B the easing or frame having my improved fastener applied thereto. In the form shown, the fastener consists essentially of a base plate C, having apertured lugs c rising therefrom, and a cam lever D, pivoted to and between said lugs and having an eccentric head portion (Z arranged to her upon a longitudinally movable dog E, interposed between said base plate and lever with one end thereof extended so that it may overlap and engage the edge or margin of the storm sash in the manner shown in the drawin s, an firmly secure the sash in place whi e permitting it to be readily adjusted or removed, if desired, by throwing the cam'lever back into the dotted line position shown in Fig; 3 of the drawings, and sliding or drawing the dog back so as to release the sash. The sliding dog may be conveniently secured to the base-plate with provision for adjustment by means of a bolt or screw passing through an oblong slot al in the shank of the dog and screwed into the casing or frame to m s PATENT orrron.
which the sash is attached, and the project- 7 ing end of the dog is preferably formed with a lip or right-angled bend d to take over the edge of the sash frame and prevent sideWise movement. I
I thus provide a very simple, inexpensive and eflicient sash holder, which is adapted to be easily and quickly applied for holding a storm sash or screen, or analogous device in place, adapting the sash to be easily adjusted and secured in different positions or removed, for storage during warm weather, or for other purposes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. A storm sash and door fastener comprising a base-plate for attachment to a window or door frame surrounding the sash, a
cam lever pivoted upon said base plate, and I a longitudinally movable dog slidably confined between said base-plate and lever, said dog consisting of a substantially straight bar extending substantially parallel with said base-plate and beyond the samev at one end, said end being adapted to bear flat-wise v its end a lip or bend for engaging and pre- I, ventmg sidewise movement of the sash.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
MICHAEL FRIAR.
lever having one end extended beyond said pivot and having a longitudinally slotted shank to receive a bolt or screw for securing it to plate, soas to permit longitudinal, movementythe' free end of said d g being adapted to bear upon the sash and to. be pressed thereagainst, by the cam so, as to hold the sash firmly in place and'havin'g at VWitnesses:
W. T. CUMMINS, IVOR Slims.
