TUBE-MILL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1919,
Application filed August 31, 1916, Serial No. 117,853. Renewed December 20, '1918. Serial No. 267,712.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHAN S. FAs'rrNc, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing in F rederiksberg, near Copenhagen, Denmark, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in TubeMills, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof. I
In Letters Patent of the United States No. 1,204,554, dated November 14, 1916, there is described a method of grinding in tube mills, in which the grinding is carried on with separation of the charge of grindin bodies and material to be ground into para lel, circumferential streams by means of partitions transverse to the axis ofthe mill, so that a frictional dra between the grinding bodies and the mill is exerted not only upon those grinding bodies in each stream ,whlch l1e against the circumferential wall of the mill, 'but also upon the grinding bodies at each side I of each I stream which lie against the transverse partitions which separate adjacent streams. The object of the present invention'is to produce a mill adapted for the practice of the same method but in a difierent specific use and is particularly concerned with the construction of the annular partitions and with means for securing the same within the cylindrical shell or drum of the mill. The annular partitions which separate the charge into parallel, circumferential streams, are so constructed and are provided with such securin devices that they may be firmly held in p ace during operation but readily removable for renewal or repair, and that the circumferential streams of the charge shall not be broken up. The invention will be more fully explained hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings in which it is illustrated, and in which- Figure 1 is a fragmentary detail incrosssection of a grinding mill illustrating one form of the partition rings.
Fig. 2 is a detail view, as seen from the axis of the' drum, of one of the securing de vices shown in Fig. 1. I N
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig.3-1' but showing a slightly different form of the par-- tition rings and a slightly modified form of the securing devices. 4
Fig; 4 is a detail view in section through outer wall of the mill at or its lining a, and
are detachably secured to the drum so as to be capable of easy removal and replacement.
In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, each section I) is formed with notches Z1 in its inner and outer edges and with intermediate perforations b and at each end with a radial notch or groove 6 with a shoulder I) and, it may be, with a radial notch or groove 6 beyond the shoulder, each end of each plate being'also provided with a foot b arranged to bear against a. block a placed in the lining and preferably depressed somewhat with reference'to the lining so as to form a recess 0'. A bolt d, having'preferably an angular head d to engage the grooves?) in adjacent ends of adjacent sections, so as to be held thereby from rotation, and to bear against the shoulders 12 0f the two adjacent ends, and having, if desired, an angular stem to engage the recesses in the ends of the sections outwardly beyond the shoulders 6 is passed through the block or bearing 0 and through the outer shell, and receives outside of the shell ,a nut d By'this construction the several sections are held firmly in position, with no parts projecting beyond the faces of the'shell, and are readily released for restep C placed therefor in the lining and two adj acent sections are secured together to the outer wall of the mill by a common bolt D,
the head of which engages shoulders formed onthe ring'sections while the outer end receivs .a nut outside of the shell a, substantially as already described with respect to the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In this construction, however, the inner edges of the ring sections are held firmly in alinem-ent by wedges e engaging groovesB in' adjacent ends of adjacent sections and pro- Vided with threaded portions 6 to receive nuts e by which the wedges are drawn are protected against the rapid Wear to .which' they would be subjected if they stood outside of the plane of the partition. It will be observed further that in the construction shown in Figs. 3 and L the bolts 03 engage the longitudinal sections near the.
wall of the drum only and that it is desirable, therefore, to provide means independ nt of the bolts, such as the wedges e, to preserve the alinement of the ring sections at their inner edges.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a grinding mill the combination of a shell or drum, a transverse annular partition composed of separate and detachable longitudinal sections, radially extended, and bolts to secure said sections in place within the shell or drum, said bolts being placed between the'adjacent edges of adjacent sections and within the lanes of the sides thereof and extended tirough the wall of the shell or drum.
2. In a rinding mill the combination of a. shell or rumfa transverse annular partition composed of separate and detachable longitudinal sections, radially extended,
each section having at its end a foot to bearagainst the shellor drum, and bolts having heads to engage adjacent sections, said bolts being placed between the adjacent edges and feet of adjacent sections and within the planes of the sides thereof and extended through the wall of the shell or drum and receiving nuts on their outer ends.
3. In a gninding mill the combination of a shell or-drum, a transverse annular partition composed of ring sections, common securing devices, each of said sections having at each end a bearing foot, and steps placed within the drum to receive said bearing feet, each of said steps forming a bearing for the adjacent feet of adjacent sections.
v 4:. In a. grinding mil-l the combination of a shell or drum, a transverse annular partition composed of ring sections, common securing device-s for adjacent sections in terposed between the adjacent ends thereof, and means independent of the se'cuning devices -to preserve the alinement of the ring sections at their inner edges.
5. In a grinding mill the combination of a shell or drum, a transverse annular partition composed of ring sections, common securing devices for adjacent sections interposed between the adjacent ends thereof, wedges engaging radial grooves in adjacent ends of adjacent sections, and means to draw such wedges into place to retain the sections in alinement at their inner edges.
This specification signed this 11th day of May, A. D; 1916.
