Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,370, dated July 16, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES B. SHAW, of Victory, inthe county of Vernon and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bolt and Rivet Cutter; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consistsin the construction and arrangement of a bolt and rivet cutter,77 in which the movable knife or cutter has a forward and a swinging motionV at the same time, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. Y

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side view; Fig. 2, a back view; Fig. 3, a longitudinal section; and Fig. 4, a front view of my improved bolt and rivet cutter.

A represents one of the handles or levers, to which at the outer end is firmly secured the stationary cutter or knife B with the cuttingedge downward. Through this part ofthe handle is alongitudinal slot, a, for the passage of a bolt or pin, b, projecting from the inner side of the movable knife or cutter C. Below the slot a is a round hole for the passage of a short shaft, d, attached to one side at the upper end of the other handle or lever A. At the outer end of the shaft d projects in the same line of direction a pin, e, which is placed to one side, making it eccentric, and passes through a hole in the lower end of the movable cutter C.

It will readily be seen that by the eccentricpin e the movable cutter O obtains both a for- .Ward and a swinging motion, giving what is so desirable in cutters of all kinds, namely, a draw-cut.

` Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The arrangement of the slotted lever A with stationary knife B with the eccentric lever A connected to and operating the knife C, moving in the slot a, forward with a swinging motion to the knife B, all substantially as set forth.
