BRACELET-LINK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 1919.
Application filed June 28, 1917. Serial No. 177,484.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ART HADLEY, a subject of the King'of Great Britain, residing at Providence, 1n the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented posed central link part having interlocking.
engagement with the inclosing side links and constructed in the form of a hook or clalsip for ready connection with an adjacent lin In'the drawings- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the link complete.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof with one slde link removed.
Fig. 3 discloses the link in bottom plan.
Figs. 4 and 5 are transverse sections on lings 44 and 5-5, respectively of Fig. 2, an
Fig. 6 is a plan of the blank from which the central link is formed.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, the side links 1 and 2 are preferably dished or hollowed in cross section and separably connected at their ends by studs 3 and sockets lthat telescopically relate themselves in frictional engagement.
The central link 5 is formed from a single strip which is flattened at its opposite side edges and at spaced points to provide oppositely extending ears or lugs 7 and 8. This strip is also formed with a U-shaped depression 9 transversely about which is bent and clenched a second strip 10, the latter extending from the opposite side edges of the link strip to serve in a like capacity with the ears 8 as will hereinafter appear.
The link strip is bent in the form depicted to provide an upper length, which includes the transverse strip 10, and a lower length which constitutes a spring tongue 11. This tongue includes the ears 7 and the adjacent terminal 12 which is curved to form a stop for defining the extent of inward movement of said tongue by abutting the upper length or base. From-the depressed portion 9 the adjacent termlnal 13 is curved and shaped to form a hook or keeper for the spring tongue, said hook bearing on the convex surface of terminal 12, the ears 7 affording additional hearing or riding surface therefor.
The central link is arranged between the side links with the ears 8 and the projecting portions of the strip or clip 10 engaging in the dished part of said side links to hold the central link from upward movement between the side members. The U- recess seats against the adjacent socket 4 to limit longitudinal movement. Thus the central member is securely and firmly held in position without interfering with the free springing action of the tongue.
The central link part is economically stamped and formed from a single narrow strip of stock, and the several link parts may easily and securely be assembled in a most efiicient manner. Although the link is especially designed for bracelets, still it is obvious that it may readily be adopted for other constructions.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A bracelet link composed of spaced side link parts connected at their ends, each being dished in cross section, and a central link part arranged between the side link parts and comprising a single strip bent upon itself to form a spring tongue and a cooperating hook, said central link part carrying oppositely projecting means extending into the dished portions of the side link parts at longitudinally spaced points, certain of said means being removable.
2. A bracelet link composed of spaced side parts, and an interposed central part formed of a strip of flexible material and comprising an upper length having means at longitudinally spaced points for interlocking with the side parts and a lower length connected to the upper length and yieldable freely between said side parts.
3. A bracelet link composed of spaced side parts, and an interposed central part formed of a strip of flexible material and comprising an upper length having means at longitudinally spaced points for interlocking with the side parts and a lower stud likewise disposed toenter the respecnating in a downwardly and backwardly" directed hook, and the free end portion of the lower length being deflected from between the side parts into contactingrelation with the hook end andfiatte'nedto provide a broad bearing for the latter.
4a. A bracelet link composed of spaced link-parts, each being dished incross sec tionand one havingv a laterally extending? l in the first part and including upper I and lower lengths, and ilong itndin'ally, spaced niean s earrigfilf 7 thelceiitral link part and interlocking with thefirst' part forholding socket a't eachend and the'o'thei having a the socket for uniting the parts, and cen- 1 "tral link part'arranged between a the side link'pa-Its and comprising a single fiexible strip having spaced pair'sof ears" formed by pressing the inaterial from its "edges, said" strip being bent on alin'e with onepair of ears to'provide earsfwhich afiiord abroad bearing snrface' for sald'hook and a' retnrn hook overlylng opposite side: substantially the latter pair of ears, said first pair of ears interlocking with the side link parts.
5-. In a bracelet link, a link part formed of'a' single strip having a pair of oppositely extending ears and a recess, said strip being'forined into a clasp, a second strip bent around the first strip and seated in the re cessfto pr5i ideoppositely extending portions, and a secondlink part with which the ears and second strip intei'lo'ck. l
j 6. Abracelet' link, comprising anopen link part, a central link part arranged Witht lce ralp r npo qn- In testimony whereof If have signed my ;na1ne to in the presence of two subscribing w tnesses.
