Be it known that I, JACOB FJARLI, a citiat Tunbridge, in the county of Pierce an State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Motor-Sleds, of which the following is a specification. I i
The principal object of the invention s to provide a sleigh of this character provlded with a novel form of runners which w1ll carry the sleigh over snow in all conditions, such as loose or light snow, packed or frozen snow, as well as over drifts and upon ice.
,Another object of the invention is to provide a novel form of propeller means for the sleigh which will operate upon snow in all conditions and which tends to pack the snow instead of digging it' up.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanaying drawings and specifi cally pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation with parts broken away.

As shown in these views the sleigh is formed of a frame consisting of a pair of side beams 1 connected together by the cross beams 2 and the rear U-shaped frame 3, said frame consisting of the two vertical members connected intermediate their ends with the side beams and having the cross beam 3' connecting their upper ends together and located under the seat. Braces 4 connect the U-shaped frame with the side beams. The beams and frame support the body 5 which may be of any suitable type and carries a suitable motor at its front end inclosed by Specification of Letters Patent.

the hood 6. The lower ends of the vertical members of the U-shaped frame are connected with the rear pair of runners 7 which are made of skee shape. The front runners 8 are connected to the front part of the sleigh by means of the socket members 9 connected with the runners and receiving the post 10 carried by the sleigh. The socket members 9 are connected with a suitable steering mechanism by means of the links 11. The front ends of therunners are connected together by the cross pieces 12.
The shaft 13 of the propeller wheel 14 is mounted in frame 15 which comprises the side members 16 connected together by the cross member 17, the said shaft being journaled in the rear ends of the said side members 16. The front ends of said members are j ournaled on thimbles 18 carried by the side beams so that the propeller wheel can be moved vertically. A shaft 19 is journaled in said thimbles and said shaft is connected with the motor by means of the shaft 20 and the gears 21. The said shaft is connected with the shaft 13 of the propeller wheel by means of the chain 22 and the sprocket wheels 23 and 24. A half elliptic spring 25 has one end hinged to one of the side beams with its central part engaging the member 17 of the frame 15. The other end of said spring is connected with a bell crank lever 26 pivoted to a lug 27 carried by the other side beam and one arm of said lever is extended upwardly to adjacent the drivers seat so that the pressure of said spring on the frame 15 may be controlled by the, driver. In this manner frictional engagement of the propeller wheel with the surface of the snow may be increased or diminished.
The propeller wheel consists of a pair of circular end members 28 secured to the shaft 13 and a plurality of blades 29 of curved shape as shown and having their ends provided with the pivot pins 30 located intermediate the edges of the blades and passing through holes formed in the end members 28. The outer edges of the blades are provided with the teeth 31. The said pins 30 are provided with arms 32 located on the outer face of the end members and these arms are yielding surface they will rotate on their pivots causing the arms to compress the springs but as soon as such an obstruction is passed said springs will cause the blades to return to normal position. As the blades are made of spring metal one end of said blade meeting greater resistance than the other end Will cause the blade to be twisted thus freeing the Wheels of snow which may be packed between the blades.
The runners may be made of-plate steel polished on the under side and reinforced-on the upper side. Said runners are provided with strips 7 to prevent the rumiers from slipping sidewise. If desired the runners may be made of Wood With the strips 7 made of steel. The propeller blades of the Wheel being of considerable length Will afford great tractive power to the sleigh on loose snow and said blades being flexible Will prevent the clogging of snow in the Wheel. The arms 32 with their springs are covered by a cover plate 28 and the sprockets 23 and 24 with the chain are also provided with suitable covering means.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understoodthat I may make such changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scopeiof the appendedclaim.

A motor: sled comprisinga driven shaft, a frame having one end pivoted thereon, a
shaft journaled in the other. end of the frame, a propelling wheel on said shaft, means for connecting-- the tWoshafts together, a leaf spring having one endpivoted to a part of thesled With a part resting on the frame and a hand lever connected-with the other end ofthespring for regulating the pressure of the spring on the frame.-
