Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jain. 14, 1919.
application nica March 15, 191s. serial No. scarso.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDOUARD H. Gr. Aernn, a citizen of the Unitedy States of America. re-A siding at New York-7 in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in lneinerators; and `ll do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a folding incinerator particularly designed for use about army camps, construction `camps or upon farms and he primary object of the invention is to provide a folding incinerator which is extremely *simple in construction and one which may be folded into a rela tively compact form for transportation.
More specificallyythis invention comprehends the provision of an incinerator includ ing` a pair of vmaterial holding sections which are pivotally connected near their lower ends and which are composed of a plurality of longitudinally extending braces having uprights attached thereto in spaced relation to each other, the lower halves of the sections being provided with substantially twice as many uprlghts as the upper halves of the .sections for reducing the sizes of the spaces between the uprights and further to pivotally connect a pair of inverted l.l-shaped members to the sections which Ushaped members extend perpendicularly for forming supporting legs to support the two pivoted sections of the incinerator when in an opened position.
With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved incinerator.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the incinerator and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the incinerator in a folded position.
Referring more particularly to the draw ings, 1 and 2 indicate .the retaining sections of the incinerator which are composed of a pair of substantially inverted U-shaped bars 3 having their bight portions positioned upwardly and being connected by cross braces t and 5. The cross braces 5 extend from one of the legs to the other of each of the U-shaped members short distances above the lower ends of the legs while the braces a extend substantially equi-distant of the bight portions and the lower free ends of the legs as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. A plurality of uprights are attached to the bight portions 6 of each ofthe Llshaped members and to the lower cross braces 5. Uprights S are positioned between each facing pair of the uprights Z and they extend from the lower brace 5 to the intermediate brace 4l as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, providing smaller spaces between the uprights in `the lower half of each of the pivoted sections of the incinerator than the spaces between the uprights in the upper half. rlhe cross brace may be composed of a plurality of short sections extending between andattached to the uprights 7, if it is so desired or they may be one continuous strip provided with recesses for receiving the uprlghts 7.
The legs 3 of the U-shaped members of each of the sections 1 `and 2 are provided with semi-circular bosses 9 through'which pivot pins 10 extend for pivotally connecting the sections 1 and 2 short distances upwardly of the lower ends of the legs of the Ushaped members. rlhe lower ends 11 0f the legs of the U-shaped members which project beneath the pivot pins 10 form supporting legs for the retaining body of the incin erator and they cross at the pivot 10 as clearlv shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
U-shaped braces or supports 12 are pivotally connected as shown at 13 to the U- shaped members 3 near the upper ends of the legs of the lJ-shaped members and the legs of the Ushaped braces 12 extend per pendicularly and downwardly from their pivotal connection with the Ueshaped members 3, forming supporting legs for the substantially V-shaped retaining portion of the incinerator when the same is in an open position. Removable brace rods 14 are provided, one being mounted near each end of the incinerator. 'llhe bracing rods 14- are provided with hooked end portions 15 which engage the braces a for supporting and bracing the sections 1 and 2 of the incinerator.
iio
. titled provided When the incinerator is not in use, it may be folded as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, into a compact form for transportation. The section 2 is preferably slightly smaller than the section l, so that it may fold partially within the section l when the incinerator is in a folded position.
In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is ensuch alterations are comprehended Within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is:
l. In a folding ineinerator, a retaining body composed of a pair of substantially inverted U shaped members pivotally connected near their lower ends, a cross brace extending across each of said U shaped members directly above the pivot thereof, and a plurality of uprights attached to the upperk portions of said U-.shape'd members and said cross braces.
2. In a folding .incineratoig a retaining body` composed of a pair of 'substantially inverted U -shaped members- Apivotally connected near their lower ends, a cross brace extending across each of said U-shaped members directly above the pivot thereof, and a copies of this patent may be ob'feined for five cents each, by addressing the plurality of uprights attached to the upper portions of said U-shaped members and said cross braces, and supporting legs pivotally connected to said U-shaped members near their upper ends.
3. In a folding incinerator, a retaining body composed of a pair of substantially inverted U -shaped members pivotally connected near their lower ends, a cross brave extending across each of said U-shaped members directly above the pivot thereof,
and a'plurality of uprights attached to the upper portions of said U-shaped members and said cross braces, and supporting legs pivotally connected to said U-shaped members near their upper portions, a plurality of relatively short uprights positioned between the first named uprights and eXtending from the cross braces upwardly to substantially midway of the cross braces and the upper portions of the U-shaped members, and transversely extending brace rods engaging said cross rods.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
