To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Josnrn S. FIALA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washbenches, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in wash benches and has for its'object the production of a device of this character which will be of durable and economical construction and efficient in use. Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a tubsupporting element which consists of a top formed of an annular rim portion 6 preferably of angle iron and diametric cross pieces 7 of T iron. The members 7 are connected with the inwardly extending flange of rim portion 6 and serves simply as a means for reinforcement therefor. Depending from the rim 6 are legs 8 which are rigidly fastened to the depending flange of member 6 by means of bolts 9 and cooperating nuts 10, the upper bifurcated ends of said legs being wrapped around said bolts, as clearly shown in the several views.

Arranged at the under side of the top of the tub support are two spaced parallel an gle irons 11 rigidly secured to and spaced from the rim member 6 by means of channel formed members 12, as clearly shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The depending flanges of angle irons 11 are formed with elongated slots 13 which extend substantially the full length of said angle irons.

Patented Dec. 31, 1918 ally U-shapedangle iron top or body 14 which is adapted to slidably engage between the angle irons 11. Provided at the inner end of the member 14 is a transversely extending bar 15 the ends of which slidably engage in the slots 13, whereby the members 11 serve as supports for the inner end of the auxiliary supporting member as will be readily understood. The frame member 14 is reinforced by longitudinally extending bars 16 which extend from the bar 15 to the outer or front end of said frame member. The front end of said frame member is supported by legs 17 which are braced by angularly disposed brace members 18 which connect said legs with the brace rods 16. At the front end of frame member 14 is provided a handle 19 whereby said auxiliary supporting member may be readily slid to and from position, as will be readily understood.

Arising from the tub support frame member 16 at the side thereof from which the auxiliary support is adapted to be extended, is a substantially inverted U-shaped wringer -support 20 formed of two strands of heavy wire, the lower ends of which are rigidly secured to the frame member 6 by bolts 9 and nuts 10 as clearly shown in Fig. 3. The leg 8 and 17 are preferably formed of the same kind of material as the support 20, as clearly shown in Fig. 4. Provided at the upper end of support 20 are two spaced lugs or ears 21 which are adapted for service as supports for a conventional clothes wringer, as clearly shown in dotted lines at 22 in Figs. 1 and 2.

Also provided upon the tub support are tub stops 23 in the form of lates which are spaced around the frame member 6, arising therefrom as clearly shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4. The members 23 are secured in position by bolts 9 and nuts 10 and are adapted, when the device is in use, to engage with the base of the tub 24 which may be arranged upon the tub support, so as to prevent sliding of the tub from position.

With the construction set forth it will be seen that a compact, durable and economical construction is presented which is adapted to accommodate a tub, clothes wringer and basket or other receptacle which may be arranged upon the auxiliary support for the reception of the clothes after passing of the same through the wringer.
