Description

E. TEITZ.
CUBE DISPLAY SIGN. APPLICATION FILED IuNE 8.1918
1,288,745. Imena De@.24,1918.
INvENTo l wam/( J ATTORNEY EMANUEL TEITZ, 0F NEWARK, NEWJERSEY.
CUBE DISPLAY-SIGN.
Applcationled June 8, 1918.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, EMANUEL Tnrrz, a subject of Russia, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cube Display-Signs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art t0 which it pertains to make, construct, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is the production of an advertising device which is rota table, and in which the rotatable element upon which the advertisements are placed consists of a cube or heXahedron so mounted upon and revolved by a vertical drive shaft, which may be driven by an electric motor or any other suitable means, whereby all six faces or squares of the cube or hexahedron may be presented to view to display the advertisements inscribed upon all of the faces or squares thereof.
A further object of the invention is to construct the advertising cube or hexahedron from a cardboard blank so that when not in use it may be conveniently flattened out and stored away.
A further object of my invention is the production of a device of this character, .which shall be simple and exceedingly effective in construction and comparatively inexpensive in cost of manufacture.
With this end in view, my invention consists in certain novelties of construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
Thile the preferred form of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, yet it is to be understood that minor changes may be made without departing from the scope thereof.
In the drawings,
Figure l represents a front elevation of my improved device.
Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the cube or hexahedron indicating the points through which the drive shaft passes, and
Fig. 3 represents a plan view of the cardboard blank which subsequently forms the completed cube or hexahedron.
Similar numerals of reference refer to like Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 24, 19185.-
serial No. 238,996.
parts throughout the specificationy and drawings.
Referring to the drawings, l represents a base or support .which may be of any suitable form. The base is preferably hollow and contains actuating mechanism such as a motor 2 or the like, shown in dotted lines, by which a cube 3 is rotatably mounted in any desired or convenient manner, upon a vertical drive shaft l. The cube 3 is so mounted upon the shaft a that all siX faces or squares of the cube, as the same revolves, are presented to view to display the adver tisements which may be placed on the sides thereof. The cube is preferably formed from a cardboard blank, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, scored along the dotted lines indicated thereon.
In Fig. 8 of the drawings I have shown a blank 5, preferably made from cardboard or the like, which subsequently forms the completed cube.
This blank 5, at the points marked 6 and 7, may be provided with any convenient means, not shown, by means of which the cube 3 is secured to the drive shaft 4L.
From an inspection of Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be seen that the drive shaft -L passes through the point 6 at the front end of the lower face or square 8, and through the point 7 at the rear end of the upper face or square 9 in such a manner, that all six faces or squares of the cube 3, when the said cube is rotated, are presented to view, thereby displaying or. presenting to view, the advertisements or indicia inscribed upon the faces or squares of said cube.
Experience has demonstrated that the organization above described is a highly eflicient one, and while I have shown the preferred embodiment of my present invention, I do not wish to be limited to the eXact details of construction shown and described, as obvious modifications thereof, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made by any skilled mechanic, and such departures from .what is herein set forth, I consider within the scope and terms of my claims.
l. An advertising device, comprising a vertically disposed cube, indicia or advertisements inscribed upon the faces of said cube, and means for rotating said cube.
2. An advertising device, comprising a supporting` base, a rotatable vertical shaft mounted thereon, an advertising cube mounted fast to said shaft, and means Whereby said cube may be rotated.
8. A device of the character described, comprising a supporting base, a rotatable vertical shaft mounted thereon, a *cube formed from a single piece of fiat material,
the faces oi'said cube having advertisementsV 10 inscribed thereon, mounted fast to said shaft in such a manner that all of the faces of said cube are presented t0 View, and means Whereby said cube may be rotated.
This specification signed and witnessed this 7th day of June, 1918.
EMANUEL TEITZ.
