To all Iwhom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. OCONNOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Railway Draft-Rigging, of'which the following is a full, clear, concise, andv exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in v specification, Figure 1 is a longitudinal, central vertical section of adraft rigging showing my improvements in connection. therewith. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional View taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Figs. 3 and 4 are transverse, vertical sectional views taken,on the lines 3 3 and 4-4 respectively of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the front follower block and Fig. G is a top plan view of the yoke.
In said drawing, 10-10 denotes the center sills or draft members provided with rear slots 11, intermediate slots 12 and front slots vl 13, to accommodate a rear key 14, intermediate key 15, and coupler key 16, the latter being movable longitudinally within the.

vertically arranged follower portion 23 having -a rearward extension 24 slotted as i11- dicated at 25 to accommodate the key 14 and permit the yoke to move forwardly under draft but preventing rearward movement of said yoke. Thel upper edge ,of said vertical.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2,` said rib20 is out away at its front portion asindicated at 31 thereby forming a shoulder 32 normally` spaced from the follower 18 adistance corresponding to the permissible amount of compression on the springs. The block ldis- -tapered forwardly on its sides as appears from Figs. 2 and 5 and to correspond therewith, the side walls 33-33 of the yoke are similarly l tapered whereby said follower block 18 is retained in centrall position. 'The forwardly extended sides 34-34 ofthe yoke are slotted as indicated at35 to accommodate the rearward movementof the coupler' key 16 during the bulng action of the gear.
In operation, upon rearward movement of the draw bar, the follower block 18 is forced rearwardly thereby compressing the springs against the rear follower 23 of the yoke. In
draft, the follower block 18 is prevented from forward movement and the springs are therefore vcompreed by the yoke and its rear follower 23 which moves forwaidl over the rear-key 14. In either buff or dra the amount of movement is limited by the engagement of said shoulder 32 with the front.- follower block'."
From the preceding description, it will be seen that I have provided a spring draft gear of unusually high capacity since I am` enabled to employ three springs arranged parallelly andina space which conforms to StL the regulations of the Master Car Builders Association. All the arts may be cheaply manufactured and tfie gear readily assembled and disassembled. Furthermore, I avoid the use of the usual stop castings.
Although AI have herein shown and described what I now consider-'the `preferred embodiment of my invention, the same 1s merely illustrative yand I contemplate all changes and modifications that come within y the scope of the claims appended hereto.
1 I claim:
1. In a draft rigging for railway cars, the combination with a single arm yoke adapted to be connected t a ,draw bar and having a `rear follower movable-in .unison therewith, of a front follower, cushioning means between said followers, and coperating means f 'on said front follower and yoke to limit the compression of the cushionmgmeans.`
2. In a draft rigging for railway cars, the
combination with draft sills, of a single arm.

Ina draft rigging for railway,cars,the combination with a yoke adapted to be connected to a draw bar, of a front follower as- "v'sociated with said yoke and movable with respect thereto, a rea'r' follower, cushioning means between said followers, and lcoperating integral means on said front follower and yoke to limit the relative movement therebetween and also to limit the compression of the cushioning means, said means be-v ing located in the center line of draft.
4:. In a draft rigging for railway cars, the combination with a yoke adapted to be attached to a draw bar, of front and rearfollowers associated with said yoke, one of said followers being fixed with respect to the yoke and the other movable relativel to, cushioning means interposedg said followers, and cooperating integral shoulders on'said yoke and the follower movable with respect thereto, adapted to limit the relative movementl between said follower and the yoke. v
5.,InV a' draft rigging, the combination with draft sills, of a pair of fixed keys extending ,through said sills, av front follower slidably mounted on the front key, a drawbar, a single armyoke connected to said draw bar and' extending rearwardlybeneath said front follower, said yoke having an integral rear follower provided with a'slot to receive the rear key, and springs extending between said followers and located on the ,means on the front follower. and yoketo limit the compression 'of the springs.
