Dec. 10, 1918.
Application filed May 15, 1918. Serial No. 234,660.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN J. SAEHR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pierz. in the county of Morrison, State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Sled-Runner Attachment for Wagons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to a sled runner attachment for vehicles, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which embodies novel features of construction whereby it can be readily applied to the axles of any ordinary vehicle after the wheels have been removed therefrom, thereby enabling the vehicle to be used as a sleigh.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a device of this character which is comparatively simple and inexpensive in its construction, which can be readily applied to a vehicle, and which can be adjusted in the necessary manner to accommodate difl'erent lengths of wagon bodies.
WVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a sled runner attachment for vehicles constructed in accordance with the invention. 7
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the runner, showing one of the standards or knees inelevati'on.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters. 7
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the runner which may be of any suitable construction, the forward end thereof being shown as curved upwardly at 1*, and as having the extremity thereof connected by a brace 4 to the forward knee or stand right web 5 which tapers in width toward its upper end where it is provided with a transversely extending integral sleeve 6 adapted to fit upon the axle of the vehicle in the place of one of the wheels. The sleeve 6 projects laterally from opposite sides of the main web 5, the projecting ends thereof being supported and reinforced by integral webs 7 which are arranged at right angles to the main web 5 and gradually taper toward the lower ends of the standards where they merge into the same, as indicated by Fig. 2. Each of the standards or knees B thus has an integral construction, and these members may be formed of wood, iron, or any other suitable material. At the bottom of each of the standards B the main web 5 is divided longitudinally to provide a pair of jaws 8 and 9. The jaws or side flanges 8' and 9 embrace the sides of the runner and are secured thereto by horizontally extending bolts 10, while end flanges 11 extend over the top of the runner and are secured thereto by vertical bolts 12. It will thus be-understood that when the sleeves6 at the upper ends of the standards are fitted upon the axles of the vehicles in place of the usual wheels, the vehicle is mounted upon the runners and can be used the same as a regular sleigh.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A sled runner attachment for vehicles, including a runner, a standard projecting upwardly from the runner and having an inte gral construction, said standard including a solid web which converges toward the upper end thereof, the said upper end of the standard being provided with an integral axle receiving sleeve which projects laterally on op-' posite sides thereof, the ends of the sleeve being supported by solid webs which extend downwardly therefrom and gradually merge into'the main web. the lower edge of the main web being divided to provide side flanges which embrace the runner and end flanges which extend over the top of the name to this specification in the presence of runner, horizontally extending fastening two subscribing Witnesses.
members securing the side flanges to the JOHN J SAEHR runner, and vertically extending fastening members securing the end flanges to the Witnesses:
runner. I A. P. STOLL,
In testimony whereof I have signed my 7 B. M. STOLL.
