CHARLES LESQUIER, 0F UNION, NEW JERSEY.
MEAT-SLICING MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1918.
Application led June 4, 1918. Serial N o. 238,204. Y
Y 10 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES LnsQUrnn, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Union, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and usefulV Improvements in Meat-Slicing Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be aL full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
. This invention relates to new and useful improvements in meat slicing machines and consists essentially in the provision of an apparatus of this nature, so arranged that the knife may be detachably yconnected to a rotatable plate, thereby appreciably lengthening the usefulness of the machine.
The present invention consists of various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accom` panying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure l is a perspective view partially in section through my improved meat slicing machine, and
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view centrally and vertically through the apparatus.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letters A designates the frame of the machine in which the vertically disposed driving shaft B is journaled in suitable bearings and having keyed thereto a beveled pinion C meshing with a similar pinion D keyed to the counter shaft E also journaled in the frame, and to which a driving wheel F is fastened. To the upper end of the shaft B is a circular plate H, upon which a plate H is supported, which latter is supported with a recess I, formed in its upper surface, the walls of the surface being provided with notches K at intervals. Said plate I-I is provided with a central aperture Laadapted to receive the upper end of the shaft B upon which it is fastened. The cutter knife, designated by letter R, is of circular outline and is provided with a series of lugs T conforming to and adapted to engage the several notches K formed in the wall of the recessed portion of the plate. The bottom of each notch and each lug T are provided with threaded apertures, as shown in the drawings, and are adapted to receive the screws S, whereby the knife may be held securely to the plate in the manner disclosed.
When the knife is secured to the plate, V
it will be noted that its outer beveled edge will overhang the marginal edge of the plate beneath, and in the event of the knife being worn down, by being sharpened frequently, the knife maybe removed and another inserted in its place, thereby appreciably lengthening the life of the machine and reducing to a minimum the upkeep thereof.
What I claim to be new is:
A meat slicing machine, comprising a frame, a vertically rotatable shaft mounted therein, a disk having a central boss with a socket in its under surface receiving the upper end of said shaft to which it is keyed, a plate resting upon and secured to said disk, and having a central opening through which said boss passes, the upper surface of said plate being recessed, and its outer circumferential edge inclined, the upper marginal edge of the plate being provided at intervals with notches, a cutter knife resting upon the upper edge of said flange and secured to the plate, and having downwardly extending lugs engaging said notches, said knife having a beveled edge Hush with the beveled circumference of said plate to which it is secured.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES LESQUIER.
