sito.`
Laaaaoo,
To all whom t may concern:
`Be it known that l, HARRY C. HAMns, a citizen `of the United States, residing x at London, in thecounty of Madison and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Silos, of which the following is aispeciication. i
My invention relates to silos and has par ticular application to a door construction whereby this door may be held closed and also may be the means ot anchoring the usial type `of `circumterential reinforcing ro i i The `main object ot my invention consists in a peculiartype of framework construction for the dolor, this portion of myinvention consisting of the general framework with a concrete or cement block cast about it and, therefore, forming an integral part of the concrete slab.
A further object of my invention resides inthe provision of a peculiar type of lockingclip with which the locking bar for holding the door in closed position `cooperates and into which the ends of the circumferential reinforcing rods are anchored, so that these rods neednot be extended across the" door space. lin this manner no obstruction is placed across the doorto interfere with the discharging of the material from the interior or to interfere with 'the free movements of an individual when entering.
The preferredembodiment of my inven` tionis shown in the accompanying` sheet of drawings, in which similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts, and in which: i
y Figure 1 is a face view `ota portion of a silo sidewall showing the type of .door construction proposed byme,
Fig; 2 is a transverse section `taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1,f n i Fig. 3 is a detail View in perspective of the locking clipsused by me and showing the ladder rungs in position thereon, and
Fig. 4t is a detail crpss sectional view of the joint formed between the door frame and the door.
The type of silo' door `illustrated in the drawings, is articularly applicable to silos constructed rom concrete or stone slabs placed one upon another and preferably made so that the joints are broken. "These F slabs are designated by the reference numeral 1 and extending vertically at one Specification of Lette-rs Patent.
Application led `(lctober 22, 1915. i SerialNo. 57,366.
lPatentedlDec. 3, Wiel frame Scast within them. i The peripheral edges of these door frames are preferably bent outwardly, as is shown at 4:, both for` the purpose of securely holding the` frames 1n position, and the inside flanges are each provided with a` V-shaped bead 4 tor the l, 652
purpose ofl forming a tight joint between them and thedoors 5. rlhese `doors arealso,
formed with a semi-circular "bead 6J 'so shaped that their inner edge is. in .engagea` ment with the inner edge of one of the lo flanges 4:, while the remainder of the beads are sllghtlywspaced from thedoor fralnepin order to form` a space into which clay or? the like maybeplaced when the elooris` i placed in moisture. cachot the doors is also provided .with a locking bar 7 centrally pivoted` as is shown at 8 and engaging inclined or calnfaces 9 of `the lockingclips shown at osition to` exclude all air -and 7% 10. These locking clips are `each provided withfa `pair of rearwardly extending lugs or pins 11 designed `topass through the cor n responding` apertures formed `in each ofthe door frarnes-i` and during the operation of casting the concrete about these door frames,`
these clips may be placed in position sothat they will be permanently attached."` How ever, if desired, the holes formed in the concrete by the pins 11" may be so shaped that the clips will at all times `be removable. to
The. ends of the clips 10 opposite from those on which the earn surfaces 9iareiformed, are bent rearwardly `as is shown at 12 to extend in substantially the samezdirection as the direction of thesilo body and these portions 12 are'thenagain bent inwardly as is shown at-13. These inwardly` bent portions are also notehedor `cut out as is shownat 14C to embrace orit over `the cir'-` cumferentiallyi extending reinforcingz rods 15. In order that these `reinforcing rods may not extend across the open doorway, I have provided each ofthe clips Withan aperture 16 through which the` threaded ends of theserods` are made to pass and the rods then firmly held in position by tightening of `the nuts" 17. The purpose ot `the inwardly bent portions 13 ofthe locking bending of these clips. The inwardly bent portions 13 then serve as a foot or abutment for resting against the outside face of the silo body to give sufficient stability to the clips to permanently hold the reinforcing rods in position and to permit these rods to perform their reinforcing function. Also, these reinforcing rods are made to extend beneath the portion 12 of the clips in order that they may pass very close to the outside face of the silo body in order that each of the `blocks comprising this silo body may be engaged 'for purposes of reinforcement.
Since it is necessary to climb to the top of these silos quite frequently, a ladder is very often necessary andin order to provide this ladder, I have so formed the wires 18 and 1-9 that they may be suspendedjfrom the locking clipsinthe manner shown. It will be noted that Vthe vertically extending ends ofeach' of-tliese ladder rungs is bent over to assume'fhook-forin, as shown at 20 and it isfflthese 'hook formations that engage the portion 12 ofveach of the locking clips.
From the fore-going, it willbe apparent thai-Ll have provided a particularly effective type of silo door. By kcasting the door framesinto the slabs 2, these door frames are always permanently held in position andthe-chances 4of their warping or becomi-n'gbrokenfis reduced to a minimum. Further, 'by the peculiar type .of locking clip shown the entire silo body may be reinforced through/the-inedium yof the reinforcing rods 15. and '-these clips .aiso -inade to perform their function of .copera-ting with the'loc'king-'bars 7 to'liold .the doors 5 in position.
