To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ANDREW PETUs and STEFAN MIZERAK, both subjects of the King of Hungary, and residents of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sick-Room Tables, of which the fo1low` ing is a specification.

This invention relates to a sick room table and has as its object to provide a table easily attachable to and detachable from a metallic bedsteadv as generally used in hospitals, sick rooms, etc., adjustable'in' various positions, adapted to be used for various purposes also when detached from the bed-stead, simple of construction, cheap to manufacture and easy to handle.

YWith the foregoing and other objects in view, the'invention consists in the particular construction, combination and arran ement of arts hereinafter more s ecifically descri ed and shown in its prefgrred form in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 3 is a part of the angle iron frame of a metallic bed stead to which is attached a clamp 4, comprising an upper part 5 of substantially L-shaped cross section one longitudinal edge 6 of which is bent under, adapted to clamp the edge of the upper, horizontal portion of the frame 3, and a lower part 7 having its bottom edge 8 turned upward,

The part 7 has attached to it screw bolts 9 projecting through and adapted to slide in vertical slots 10 provided in the part 5, so that the two parts are susceptible of a vertical sliding and of a tilting movement in respect to each other and may be secured together, in the required Iposition, by wing nuts 11 apl plied to the screw bolts 9.

Owing to this arrangement, the clamp 4 can easily be attached to the bed-stead by loosening the wing nuts 11, sliding the part table, when attached to a 7 down on the part 5 as far as the slots 10 will allow, hooking 0n the part 6 to the horizontal upper portion of the frame 3, at an angle thereto, as seen in Fig. 2, thenraising up the part 7 until the clamp lies close against the frame 3 and, finally, tightening the wing nuts 11. By a reversed process the clam; can easily be detached from the bedstea It is also obvious that when the clamp 4 is attached to the frame 3, it may be moved along the entire length thereof, without the need of detaching it, by loosening' the wing nuts and extending the clamp, and it may be fixed at any partof the length of the frame b raising the part 7 of the clamp and tightening 'the wing nuts.

The part 7 of the clamp 4 carries a horizontal arm 12, to the outer end of which is attached a vertical tube 13. The latter carries, inserted into its upper end, slidably and rotatably therein, a vertical rod 14 adjustable in various positions by means of a winged set screw 15. v

Connected to the upper end of the rod 14 by hinge- parts 16 and 17, is a table top 18 having one longitudinal edge bent at an angle as at 19 so as to form a guard rail which serves as a support to a book or music sheet and at the same time is adapted to prevent articles sliding olf the table top or eing accidentally brushed oli' same when in a horizontal position.

A semi-annular guide member 20- is secured to the bottom surface of the table top 18 and drawn freely slidably through a slot 21 provided in the rod 14. A winged set screw '22 inserted into the rod 14 and projecting into the slot 21 serves for securing the table top 18 at any desired angle to the rod 14, as may be clearly seen from the drawing.

A leg 23 having a base 24 is inserted into the lower end of the tube 13 and adjustable therein by means of the winged set screw 25. This leg and base serve to give the device additional stability when attached to a bed -stead and also to allow its use detached therefrom. It can easily be removed, if-required, for cleaning the fioor under the base or similar purposes.

It is obvious from the fore oing, that our be may be used as a dining table, when the table top is adjusted in a horizontal position and swung over the bed, or as a side table for keeping medical instruments and the like thereon, When swung aWay from the bed. Also as a reading and Writing desk, When the table top is adjusted in an oblique position, at Various angles according to the convenience of the user, and, finally, detached from the bed stead, it may be used similarly for various purposes, notably also as a music stand.

It is understood that While We have thus shown and described the preferred form of our invention, We do not Want to be limited to the mechanical details thereof, but may resort to such modifications and alterations as come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
