' To all whom it may concern 7 formed with an opening the wheel spindle or Be it known that I, W ALTER S. DALEY, a citizen of the United States, residing. at Los Angeles, in the State of California, have invented a new and useful Journal-Box Lubricator, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a journal-box lubricator and particularly pertains to a mechanism for delivering lubricant to the journalor bearings of Wheels such as are employed on rail-way trains, street cars and the like.
It is the object of this invention to provide means formechanicallylubricating journals whereby with; the invention primarily residing in a pan serving as a lubricant reservoir adapted to be inserted in a journal-box and mechanism carried bv bricant to the journal. 7
A, further object is to provide means on the pan for packing the heel of the journal to entering the reservoir through the back wall of the journal-box.

In carrying out my invention I employ a pan 12 shaped to conform to the bottom and side portions of the journal-box which pan serves as a container for the lubricant and is formed of sheet metal not easily fractured so as to hold the lubricant in event the j ournalbOX is cracked. This pan is formed with a rear wall 13 extending transversely acrossthe do rnal-box and having an arcuate cutgpecification of Letters Patent.

Mounted in the pan is a standard 15 on which a rocker arm 16 is pivoted; this arm 17 on its inner end in which a lubricant distributing roller 18 is revolubly mounted. Theouter end of the Y of the journal the roller 18 will revolve and carry the lubricant adhering to its circumferential surface to the journal.
By the use of this invention the employment of cotton Waste or the like may be dis pensedwith and by providing the separate lubricant pan loss of the lubricant will be avoided in event of fracture of the journal- I claim: v

The combination of a journal box, a journal therein, a pan insertible in the box beneath the journal having a vertical rear wall formed with an arcuate edge encircling the lower half of the journal, a packing strip on said edge contacting the journal and the inner face of the rear wall of the pan, and mechanism carried by the pan for delivering lubricant from the pan to the journal as the latter revolves.
