To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, Oscar: N. CLnMnTsoi citizen of the United States of America, re-' siding at l-loople,

in the county of Walsh and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coal-Shovels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a coal shovel and has for its principal object the production of a shovel which may be easily and of ficiently moved from place to place with a large amount of coal carried therein.

Another object of this invention is the production of a shovel provided with an elongated handle whereby the shovel may be shoved upon wheels which are carried upon the scoop portion of the shovel.

A still further object of this invention is the production of a simple and efficient shovel provided with wheels, an elongated handle said handle being eliiciently attached to the scoop portion of the handle by means of simple and eiiicient bracing means.

lVith these and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the shovel.

Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the shovel. Fig. 3 is the section taken on the hue 33 looking in the direction of the scoop.

By referring to the drawing by numerals it will be seen that 1 designates the scoop portion of the shovel, which is provided with the usual bottom portion 2, and the side portions 3. Upon the side portions 3 there is provided the axle carry ng members at which are held thereto by means of the rivets These axle carrying members 4: are provided with eye portions 6, through which extend the axle '7. Upon one end of the axle 7 there is provided the head 8, the other end being threaded and provided with the nut 9, whereby the wheels 10 will be prevented from coming ofi of said axle 7.

The handle portion of the device consists of the two elongated arms 11, which are attached to the sides 3 of the scoop, by means of the rivets 12. The arms 11 of the handle are held together by means of the rod 13,

which is held in engagement with the arms 'llby means of the nuts 14, as is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The arms 11 terminate at their upper ends in the bent portions 15, whereby the same may be easily and firmly gripped.

In order to firmly brace the handle portion of the scoop, there is provided the bracing means illustrated in Fig. 4. The bracing means consist of the braces 16, which are attached to the back portion of the scoop by means of the rivets 17. The braces 16 terminate at their upper ends in the lips 18, which lips 18 are provided with the apertures 19, whereby the said lips may be attached to the bottom faces of the arms 11 by means of the rivets 20. There is attached to the bottom portion of the braces 16, the angle bar 21 by means of the rivets 22. Attached to this angle bar 21 are the auxiliary braces 23, which are provided with the angularly extending lip portions 24. The lip portions 24; being provided with the apertures 25 whereby the said lip portions 24 may be attached to the under face of the arms 11, by means of the bolts 26. The body portions of the auxiliary braces 23 are adapted to extend at right angles to the braces 16, so as to extend adjacent the top of the back portion of the scoop 1, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1. These auxiliary braces 23 are adapted to meet the body portion of the braces 16, and to be attached to the angle bar 21, by means of the rivets 27.

Upon the bottom face of the body por tion of the scoop, there is provided the brace cleat 28 which is held thereon by means of the plurality of rivets 29. The purpose of this bracing cleat 28 is to prevent the body portion 2 from sagging in the middle when a great strain is put upon the scoop portion.

From the above description it will be seen that a simple and eiiicicnt coal shovel has been produced, which may be easily and quickly assembled. It will also be seen that there has been produced a coal shovel, which is provided with a scoop portion, and a handle portion, said scoop portion being efficiently braced upon said handle portion by means of the. simple and eiiicient bracing means, which is disclosed in Fig. 4.

What I claim is In' a device of the class described, the combination with a scoop, of handle arms secured to the sides of said scoop, braces rivetly held upon the rear face of said scoop, said braces terminating in angular lips, and provided with apertures, whereby said lips may be fixedly held in engagement with the under face of said handle arms, a bar fixedly attached to said braces, auxiliary braces extending at right angles from said first-mentioned braces and fixedly attached to said bar, said auxiliary braces terminating in angular lips and said last-mentioned lips signature.
