In'the drawings, 10 and 11 indicate two adjacent cylinders of an internal combustion engine and 12 indicates a valve chamber, the axis of which is conveniently parallel with the axes of the cylinders 10 and 11. The

The peculiar driving connection 17 forms the subject matter of my pending application, Serial Number 603,705.

For these reasons, and in view of the fact that the exhaust passage 19 is out of alinement with the ports 13 and 14,1 have found it expedient to define the exhaust assage 18 by means of a hollow partition 2g substantlally V-shaped in longitudinal section, as clearly indicated `in Fig. 1, thus permitting the inlet chamber or passage 1 n the upper end of the valve to be of considerable volume, the said chamber extending down alongside of the exhaust passage, as clearly indicated at 23 in Fig. 3 and also indicated by the dotted line 24 in Fig. 1,- and thus making possible elongated inlet ports of maximum capac ty and quick cut-off. By this arrangement I form very thin valve walls 25 of considerable vertical extent and, in order to hold these walls against distortion, I provide a cross bar 26 which is cast formed thereby, thus permitting the cross 109 bar to serve as adistributer of some of the heat from the exhaust passage'wall.A By the above construction I have been ablev to produce a short rotary valve having unusually large exhaust andinlet passages (as '101i compared with the size of the valve) while at the same time maintaininga gas-tight fitting of the valve in its casing.
