The invention has for its object to provide an attachment for the purpose stated which can be readily applied to a ladder or staging and removed therefronnand which can be readily taken apart for convenience in carrying or shipping. 5

WVith the object stated in view the invention consists in a combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the support;

Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the base;

Figs. 3 and 4c are cross-sections on the lines 33 and H respectively of Fig. 2;

Fig. 5is an enlarged view of a clevis as applied to a ladder;

Fig. 0 is an enlarged view of a clevis as applied to a step-ladder;

Fig. 7 is a front elevation of a ladder showing the device applied thereto, and

Fig. 8 is a front elevation of a staging showing the device applied thereto.

Referring specifically to the drawing- 1 denotes the hook designed to receive the bail of a bucket and to which is attached a downwardly extending steadying arm 2 having at its lower end a curved member 3 bent to receive the bucket 4 or other receptacle and prevent its swinging. At the upper portion of this arm 2, and adjacent the hook 1, a recess 5 is provided to receive the rim 6 of the bucket a, and by attaching the steadying arm 2 to the hook 1 well toward its outer side the bucket is of necessity thrown forward which draws the bail 7 downward and to one side leaving a full opening for easy access.

The shank 8 of the hook 1 is curved and elongated to enter the upper end 10 of the base 9 being held rigidly and detachable by the bolt 11, passing through the base and shank, and thumbnut 12, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. I

While I show, in the accompanying drawlngs, the shank 8 hinged as at 13 I wish it understood that this hinge has no bearing on this application, said hinge being cov ered by my Patent No. 1,238,286, dated August 28, 1917, on supports, and of which this invention is an improvement.

By means of the thumbnut 12 andbolt 11 the hook and base may be readily separated for convenience in carrying or shipping.

The base 9 also carries clevises 14 and 15 by which the support is conveniently attached to a ladder 16, the clevises being pivotally secured to the base by the bolts 11 and 17 respectively, having upset heads which seat in the countersunk hole in the respective clevis, as clearly shown in Figs. 2, and

One side 18 of each clevis is elongated and curved downward to catch over the round 19 or step 20 of a ladder. The enlarged View, Fig. .5, showing the clevis positioned over a round and Fig. 6 showing the clevis positioned over a step of a stepladder, the pivot, in the latter case, permitting the throat of the clevis to drop and engage the front edge of the side-bar 21, thus it will be seen that the clevis is selfadjusting to side-bars of various widths.

At the lower end of the base 9 a clamp 22 is provided whereby the support may be readily attached to a staging 23. This clamp consists of an upper jaw 24 and lower j aw 25, each having a portion bent upward at right angles to the jaw, the lower jaw 25 is split at 26 and drawn out V shape to give greater bearing surface against the staging, its upper portion 27 being shaped to lie snug against the base 9 and parallel thereto, where it is fastened rigidly by the bolt 17. The upper jaw 24 consists of a single projecting piece, preferably ofspring material, with its upper portion 28 shaped to lie snug against the corresponding portion 27 of the lower jaw 25 where it is held rigidly and adjustably in place by the bolt 29 which passes through the base 9, through the upper portion 28 of the lower jaw 25, giving greater rigidity to that member, and through the slot 30 in the said upper portion 28 of the upper jaw 24, said slot being for the purpose of adjusting the jaws to suit stagings of varying thickness, the whole being held rigid by means of the thumbnut 31.

At the upper part of the base 9 and held rigidly thereto by the thumbnut 12 is a hook 32 for the purpose of holding an extra bucket 83, or other article. At the top of this hook, and preferably a part thereof, is a.

laterally extending piece 34: which lies parallel to one shank of theclevis 14, forming therewith a clamp tobe used as a holding means for holding a second bucket as, in

painting, where two colors are being used, and the clamp 35 to hold the second brush 36 to be used therewith.

For use on a ladder the clevises are appliedtothe side-bar thereof with the curved side of 'the clevis fitting securely over the round, or step, of the ladder, and at any height optionalwviththe workman.

It is understood that the form shown and described is the preferred embodiment of my invention, and various changes may be made inthe details of the construction of the device without departing from the spirit of my invention. a
