The outer edges of the stiles (a) work in the recesses (b) `the same as ordinary sashes,v but when the upper sash B, is raised, the

shoulders of the rabbets (c) and the edges of the strips (d) will be in close contact and fit tightly together on account of the inclined surfaces of the strips and shoulders binding together. This will be clearly un- ;derstood by referring to Fig. l.

The lower sash B', is arranged in the same way, with the exception that the strips (cZl and shoulders of the `rabbets (0)` are inclined or `beveled in af reverse direction as the lower sashis closed when lowered. Thus it will be seen that when the` sashes are closed they` will be fitted perfectly tight within the casing because the edges ofthe ,strips (d), (cl), `and the shoulders of the rabbets `(0),"(c),pwill bind together and'at `the same time vthe sashes may be moved easily withinthe acases, for in opening the sashes, the inclined surfaces or edges of the shoulders, recede from the edges of the strips.

In the drawings the, two sashes are connected by cords (e) which pass over pulleys (f), (f), at the upper part ofthe frame, so that one `sash balances the other, and when one is raised the other will be moved correspondingly in the opposite direction.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,

Arranging or `adjusting the sashes within the frame or casing as herein shown and described viz.: having stripslol), (d), at-

tached to the inner sides of the frame or casing the outer edges of the strips being inclined or beveled as shown and fitted within rabbets (c), (0'), in the inner surfaces of the stiles (a) of the sashes, the shoulders of said rabbets being inclined or beveled so as vto correspond inversely with the edges of the strips (d), (0V), for the purpose as herein set forth.
